Terrible bandwidth loss

Recently i got new internet, and whenever i open up bittorrent, it'll download for about half an hour if im lucky, before eating up all my bandwidth, and killing my internet connection. This has never happened with any ISP before, and it is a huge annoyance. After that, ill have to restart my modem and router, and then repeat in about half an hour. Is there any way i can prevent this?

Make sure your modem and router aren't getting too hot. If stacked, give them some space.

My modem and router are placed well away from eachother, so i dont think thats an issue.

My ISP can do that? if so, then there isnt anything i can do is there?

Enable encryption is about all you can do.... But if your a heavy user they will limit all traffic:hmm:

Turn down your upload rate in bittorrent.

Close all internet programs and go here to find out your upload rate:

http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/

It will give it to you in Kbps. (Kilo BITS per second) To find the KB, divide Kbps by 8. (That will give you Kilo BYTES. There are 8 bits in a byte.)

Set your KB upload rate in bittorrent to at least 20 lower than your max if possible.

For example: My upload rate is 512Kbps. 512 / 8 = 64KB. I generally set mine to 32, and around 48 when AFK. You need upload bandwidth to effectively browse the net and play online.

has a program in it where i can define a program to have access priortiy!
