Just got myself two 36 GB 10000 rpm raptors, and I'm now running them in Stripe (Raid 0). OMG they are insanely quick. I used to have a striped partition with two 160 GB SATA drives but the raptors are blowing that away. The windows scrolling bar on start up is there for less then a second.

Seriously, it's well worth getting a pair. As for data loss, well I've got a 250 GB data/backup drive and everything important is backed up on there and an image on a DVD to be doubly safe.

Mass production of drives 7200rpm drives with a built in +gb flash cache and perpendicular recording should allow the best of both worlds in another year or so--imagine a half-terabyte hd with burst data transfers approaching those raptors.

Not downing the raptors at all--they're incredibly fast little hard drives, and they will be king for the day for quite a few more days to come.

I dont think they have any heating problems. I have a 74gig one, no problems.
plus they come with a 5 year warranty.

Well I've got two 120mm fans on the front of my PC and all my drives are directly behind them. I've not had an issue so far. They are a bit noisier then your average drive, but that's to be expected with the increased RPM. Oh it's the 16MB cache one's I've got.

hummm ok, i almost got some but heard they can over heat easy n you need harddrives coolers n everything for them so i just got some plain sata 2 16mb buffers n they been great

im flat broke can only just afford rent at the moment but all in due time im going to save up and rebuild my whole system plus a quick question is there much difference noticed between sata and sata2 as my hard drives are sata2 but my mobo only supports sata

The theoretical difference is 1.5gb/s. The practical difference is nil. The platters don't spin fast enough to make use of the bandwidth, therefore ATA-100 at 7200rpm with an 8mb cache roughly equals SATA-1 which roughly equals SATA-2 given a hard drive with similar speeds.

so in short it would of been better saving $10 n gettin the sata insteed of gettin these sata 2 16mb buffers 7200rpm

There's a nominal (SMALL) performance increase. $10 is a nominal price. I'd say you did pretty good, even if you're plugging yours into a sata I controller. Ref here:

You can always buy a twin later and stripe it if you want some insane HD performance.

Striping is the way forward if you don't have data on the partition that you don't mind loosing. If you have then backup backup backup or use a second backup drive.
