I just helped a friend build a new computer, and he transferred his hdd from his old rig to his new computer. Upon booting it up, it gets to the windows log in screen, but then displays an error saying something about having to check for viruses and to uninstall any new drives. He has yet to stick the hdd back in his old rig, but he's going to let me know how that goes.

Are you using it as a spare drive?
Are you hoping to put it in and your old computer will be there on your new one?
You are going to need to reformat the old one or what I'd do is buy a new Hard drive and put windows on it and use your old drive as an extra one. Save all the stuff you want and delete the old windows or reformat and partition as required.
Make sure the jumper peg is set in the right spot. eg master or slave or cable select.Comment

if he has just put the old drive in his new pc, then he'll haver problems as the hdd will have the old system drivers on, mootherboard, chipset, gfx and so on which will conflict with the new hardware driversComment

Let me guess, old computer was a Dell/HP something like that. If so tell him to be prepared to buy a copy of Windows if he didn't get a proper XP disk with the computer.Comment
