a friend of mines harddrive had the dreaded click of death and died. my question is after we install a new harddrive would we be able to get any files off the dead drive? would windows somehow be able to get on thier or something?

depends if it shows up in windows when the new one is installed, if it does show up their is various programs you can use to recover the lost data, if not and somethings really important you can pay some company to doit although that costs like 2,000

If the drive died because it locked up (disk wont spin) sometimes it is posible to retrive data by placing the drive in a zip lock bag and freezing it.

on my mates maxtor drive it started clicking because the needle got stuck so we gave it a little shake and thing worked just long enough to get all the data off the drive!

cool. lol that freezing thing sounds wierd but i wouldnt doubt it would work. well unfortunatly he brought it to circuit city so im sure they gonna bend him over.
