    Anti Aliasing

    Hi fellas,

Just got myself a new rig, here are the important specs:

    CPU: Core duo E6700
    MB: Asus P5N32-SLI DELUXE
GPU: 2X NVIDIA GEFORCE 8800 GTX 768MB running in SLI

Now I can ramp up the settings on any game at the moment to max, and it will run it without breaking a sweat.

However, the setting for anti aliasing won't go higher than 2x on BF2, and some games won't even let me play with that feature at all (they kept setting themselves to 'off'). On top of that, Doom 3 won't even adjust the settings beyond the most basic levels.

    Is it a driver thing?
Are the cards not recognised by the games 'cos they are so new?

    Any insight would be appreciated.

    Many Thanks in advance.

      Sorry mate, I've no idea.

I've also got these strange, black panels that flicker on the landscape.

Probably that more than anything. I your case you would probably be better off leaving all settings like that in off, and set them in the Nvidia control panel instead (either using the global settings, or creating individual game profiles).

            Two reasons, really.

One - to future proof my comp as much as possible.
            Two - because I could.

Well having 2x 8800GTXs is more than likely causing most of your graphical issues, since there aren't any real drivers out there that support SLi 8800s yet.

To set AA and AF higher in BF2, you have to do it through the nvidia CP. The max use listed is the highest BF2 will allow.

A few of the guys around here installed cross-fire systems on the duo core processors, and had glitches on BF2 as well.

I guess your new tech is just to slick for this old game.

I like the sound of that

I'll just have to put up with it for now then, and see how it handles some newer games. TES4-Oblivion arrives today, so lets see how that goes.

Oblivion is a true test for a PC. If you can max out that game with your rig you're doing well. The large outdoor areas in oblivion are the real test. My 7900GT didn't quite cut it and I had to tone down the settings.

A similar thing is happening with Oblivion. The game keeps putting the settings down to levels it predetermines. I don't believe that TWO 8800 GTXs can't run Oblivion (or any other current game) with all the settings at max. *edit* scratch that, oblivion is now seeing things my way.

It's starting to look like what 2nd-Irish suggested - the tech is just too new. I'll just have to hang on for new drivers or the next generation of games ie Crysis or Bioshock. Those should let the cards run at their true potential.

Just try setting your AA/AF settings through the control panel, not in-game.

I keep telling you, it's the drivers thats causing that. The drivers are too immature to really support 8800s in SLI. The second they have new drivers that support 8800s in SLI you performance will go through the roof.

Until then, your performance is going to be really poor.
