What is a good LCD Monitor for Gaming?

    Hi everyone,

I just bought a Samsung Sync Master 931BF nad although the specs are awesome (2000:1 contrast Ratio and 2ms response time) for the money (299.99 Canadian) I'm not that convinced that I've gotten my money's worth. The reason being is because when I play B2, there is frame lag, kindof like the monitor is having trouble keeping up with the game. My System and vid card are quite decent and I've never seen that happen with my old CRT monitor. I don't mind making the move to LCD but with monitors of the same size with lower specs costing more, I'm starting to wonder if the Sync Master 931BF is the best choice for the money. Does anyone have any advice on this?

By the way, I bought it at Futureshop if that means anything. I don't really trust anything they say and usually research things on the net prior to bying but this was a total impulse purchase. Thank GOD I can return it for a full refund.... phew :)

wat video card do u have? and what are u using to connect ur video card to the monitor? on the newish video cards there are the DVI connections but some older ones use the VGA connection, and DVI looks alot sharper and clearer than VGA, so that mite be ur problem

          Hi and thanks for responding,

          Using 7900GT (MSI)
          AMD 64 3700+
          2Gigs or DDR2 Ram
          K8N NEO 4 Platinum MOBO

          Using DVI

I read up on my monitor and the specs are totally innacurate. Let me know what you make of this review off Newegg. It's for the 931C but I don't think there's a difference. Samsung Lied to us with their ******* specs.

I've had this monitor for about six months now. It took about a week to get the brightness setting *just right* (careful, you'll burn your retinas). BF2 and Oblivion both look great, even better than on my 21" Sony Trinitron CRT.

It cost $99 dollars after rebates. I *cough, cough* delegated the refund paperwork to my wife. We got the $90 dollar rebate back in a week, the $20 rebate took about three months.

              Folks,

I went out and exchanged the Samsung 931bf (stay away from it, false specs.. BAD BAD!!!) for the NEC 90GX2 and I was VERY PLEASE!!!!

It got very good reviews at Newegg.com and the review at pcmag.com ( way more objective) is pretty bang on with what I am experiencing.

All in all I'm very happy with this Monitor and if you're looking for one to buy for 369.99 CDN then this may be the monitor for you. It totally blew the Samsung out of the water!!!

If you're looking for a good Monitor under 422 (CDN Taxes in) then this may be the one to get.

              My 2 cents :)
