Help needed on my network :)

Ok I just have bought myself a Netgear DG834 ADSL Router.

Set up was easy and I've got both machines connected to the internet. But I have a few problems.

I can not download files on my 2nd laptop. Lets say, I wanted to download MSN Live, and I couldn't. The file downloads in less than a second, no matter what size it is, and I can't run it because it's corrupt/incomplete. Any idea how to fix this problem?

Hmm.. Sounds like a problem on the laptop, not the router. Does the same problem accour with FF ?

FF = Firefox.

Oh I see, well I've just checked and yes, I can't seem to be able to download anything using IE7, on my laptop as well, I installed Firefox on the other now as well and it's working fine.


Why is that? Is it an IE7 issue only?

My friend seems to have noproblems downloading using IE7 at his place :/

Try clicky your IE7 settings to default.. Maybe a bug in your registry (regedit), which forces IE7 to download a file very wierd. Lol

Don't know how, I don't use IE7 lol

But it's strange, I just connected my 2nd laptop to this network, I did a Windows Update, and it updated IE to 7 as well, so it was a presh install really, and both computers are having the same issue with IE7, so it must be something to do with my router maybe? My mate has no problems downloading stuff using IE7 on his machine.

I have no problems either with IE7.
I'm using FF as my standard-browser.

It sounds wierd, with your problem. You haven't installed NetLimiter or something similair program? That could be the cause, heh... I dunno then. I don't think that a new router has a download policy about IE7 lol :p

Ok another thing,

How do I make this network secure? Do I need to change any settings?

In my Admins settings, under Security Service, Client Virus Protection Status Provides information on all computers on the network.

I see 3 IPs:

1. 192.168.0.249
2. 192.168.0.3
3. 192.168.0.2


But I only have two laptops connected to my router, and I'm guessing the 2nd and 3rd are my laptops, what's the first one then? Is it the router itself?


Sorry if it sounds newbie-like but I'm new to networks, so, IF ANYONE'S GOT NETGEAR DG834, please help me understand the admins functions etc etc etc. :)
