transfering data from pc to pc

what are some options for this?
im about to begin to build a brand new comp and i want all my pics, movies, songs and documents transfered over to my new HD.
i was thinking that i could get my new HD before everything else and just hook it up and transfer over everything onto the HD. Only thing is the one im getting is a 3gbs and my current mobo has a sata150 HD. Could i still hook it up and transfer everything over to the 3gbs.
IF not what are some other options
    thanks!

Yes you can do that your new hdd will just transfer at the 150 speed bacause you mother board is probably only sata150 anyway. also make sure that the hdd doesn't need to be jumpered to recognize on the slower controller. there are several WD drive that had this problem.

See this article on wd site

sorry i know the link is long basicly some chipsets cant see the new drive so you have to set the jumper (much like the master / slave settings on ide) so that i can see it. It is usually on the lable of the drive usually pins 5 and 6.

well you best options are to either install the old drive in the new computer as a 2nd hdd and transfer everything over or with both computers running, transfer the stuff via lan / Ethernet.

Just use the "File and Settings Transfer Wizard" in the system tools.
