When you are running four sticks of memory, the RAM looses speed. So, in my current machine I am running a 939 with DDR500 OCZ in two slots. Now if I were to bump the same type of memory up to all four slots, I would no longer be able to run at the 500 speed. It would downgrade to something sick like 333 or 266. But, you still can run Dual-Channel, just not at optimal speed. It sucks for over-clocking.

It is a well known problem and I am wondering if AMD corrected the issue with the AM2. I have not heard anything definitive.

AMD fixed this back in 939...halfway at least.

The Venice core(and newer) allows 4 slots filled as long as they were at 2T command rate, if using DOUBLE sided ram.

Venice allows 4 slots filled at 1T if the ram is SINGLE sided.

The problem is finding single sided modules over 256mb. Most(not all) 512mb modules are double sided...

This "problem" was avoided by simply purchasing 2x1024 modules. Over 1.5 years ago this was common knowledge for anyone about to purchase ram, even before the Venice came out.
