Serial ATA = SATA??

Is serial ATA 150 the same as SATA 3.0 GB/s??
im pretty sure they are but newegg has to different catogories... can someone please confirm this??

No and yes, There are technicaly 2 Serial ATA or SATA connections. Those that run at 150 and those that run at 300. (some times call SATA2) this is similare to ATA 33, 66, 100, and 133. all of them use an ide connecter but they transfer data at different speeds. Sata and Sata 2 use the same type of connecters but transfer data a differents speeds. You also need to make sure you mother board supports the fast of the 2 or you will need to jumper the hdd to the slower speed (at least on WD's) hope this helps.

It really is confusing. Any drive with one of any diff. specs can be called SATA 2 that is why they are pushing for a new standard called Sata 2.5 that have to meet all of the requirments. It will be alot less confusing when the standard is enforced.

i have some sata2's in my comp but the mobo only is sata compatable, they work fine due to being backwards compatable and when i upgrade in the future i can keep my harddrives

Serial ATA means SATA, yes. Then there is SATA2 and SATA300

PATA is just normal ATA130, 133. Just to make difference from the word "SATA" lol :p

Then you also could make 2 SATA discs into a Mirror volume, if you want a safety/backup solution.

SCSI discs are usual for server use, and noise lovers

SATA1, SATA2, all we are talking about is the maximum speed that the interface can handle, arent we forgetting the limiting factor is the disk that works a lot slower?

Its going to be a long time until disk read speeds are fast enough to worry even original SATA setups.
