psu+8800GTS
i saw that the 8800GTS requires a 400 watt psu i have a 500 watt thermaltake purepower PSU...unlike it s brother the 8800GTS has one pcie connector instead of 2...so will it be enough???

Well Antec 480w is better than 500w thermaltake. But of course you have to plug 2 pcie connectiors to the card otherway it will not get enouf power to handle card. You just need to buy one more pcie connector.Comment

the 8800GTS only has one connector its the GTX that has two
GeForce 8800 GTS card (left) only is equipped with one 6-pin PCI Express power connector, where as the 8800 GTX (right) is equipped with two. Dual PCIe power connectors for a single board is a first for both Nvidia and the entire graphics card industry. Obviously, if you're using two of these cards in SLI, the amount of necessary PCIe power adapters doubles, which means 8800 GTX SLI configurations will require four PCIe power connectors. Currently, only ultra-high wattage (750 watt and higher) PSU's have 4 x PCIe power connectors. However, if your PSU doesn't have the correct connectors, board makers are including power adapters for older power supplies with the graphics cards. We would recommend at least a 400 watt power supply power supply for any modern system using a single 8800 GTS/GTX card. When we move into SLI territory, we would recommend a power supply of 700 watts or higher.

i'm thinking about upgrading my 7900gt to an 8800gts 640mb, so my 430watt thermaltake psu should handle it? my other specs are:
core2 6400
p5b mobo
2gb corsair 5400c4 ram
xfi platinum
hdtv pci card
2 internal hdd, 1 external
i'm worried it may be testing it without going with a stronger psu, what are your thoughts... sorry to hijack the thread but i figured it is better here than opening a new oneComment

It should hopefully work, Thermaltake is quite a good brand. 8800GTS needs 26A on the 12V rail, does your PSU provide near that? Should JUST be able to, that comes to 312 watts.Comment

Actually, Enejex, i don't think that a 430W PSU will run a 8800gts. When the card is under a lot of pressure it requires more power and there are sometimes power spikes.
If you can afford to buy a 8800gts then im sure you can afford a 600W PSU. Look up the Hiper 580W on Ebuyer, thats the best deal i could find.
