    Buying a graphics card soon

Hey guys, I am going to buy a new graphics card soon and I thought I would just ask you guys what card I should get seeing how I know nothing about hardware. My budget is around 150-300 Australian dollars, I currently have a NVIDIA ge force fx 5200 (piece of **** card) and I was thinking of getting a GeForce 6600 GT or is there a another card I should get that is in my budget. I'm not looking for a wiz bang card I'm just looking for a card I can play on high settings. I would post my specs if I knew how

it depends on what your motherboard supports, PCI / AGP / PCI-e

Look inside and take a look at the slot the graphics card sits in. A 5200 would indicate an AGP but there are a few PCi ones about. Not to be confused with PCIE.
If it is an AGP i would suggest looking for a 7600GS or 6600gt, worse case scenario a x1300-1600. All would play on fairly good settings but be sure to have at least a gig of ram in your pc or a new gfc card wont really save the day.

I would think your pc is agp what make is it

if agp, wich im guessing it is i would go for an 6800gs 256mb wich at my local store is $329 a bit more than u said for your budget but you should be able to find it cheeper somewhere

errr...hard to justify spending ~$190 on an agp card that doesn't say 7800gs on it, imho.

6800gs is a great card, though. if you've got at least a gig of ram, you'll be happy (but broke) gamer.

Can you get a 7600gs or a x1650PRO for a reasonable price? (ATI recently revised their models, so the x1650Pro is more in line with an x1800 than a x1300, like the old x1600PRO used to be).

edit: but a 6600gt (needs to be the gt model) is also a very solid agp gaming card...
