If you can afford it get the E6600 Core 2 Duo. And yes they come with good heat sinks.

definenetly go with the core 2 duo,i have the 6300 and its loads better than my dads pentium D,also the core 2s are not as hot and consume less power.

Its far more efficient and gets a lot more done in less time, dont let the speed thing fool you, even a lowly Athlon 3200 clocked at 2ghz will outperform a 3ghz Pentium 4 in lots of areas.

Trust me, the core 2 duo will beyond own the pentium d, it won't even be funny. You're also going to need a better mobo, with at least a 965 chipset.

i still havent decideed on mobo yet.............but i need one that is agp, and is ddr 184 pinn [ pc3200 ] can anyone find me one with at least 965 chipset via newegg? like SIR MAT DEF said. thanks guys!

jeez nismo u need to get a pcie mobo....even if u have to wait 3 months ave up for a new mobo ram and v-card if u have to lol....u cud even get 512 ram for like $30 to get u started and buy a basic pcie card and a basic mobo lol.....

"dual core" means that the processor has two computing brains. It is a generic term.

Pentium D is a name that Intel gave to it's first generation *old* dual core processors.

Core2 Duo is a name that Intel has given to it's current *modern* line of dual core processors.

If you can get a Pentium D cheap, then they aren't BAD; they offer significant improvements compared to single core processors. "BAD" they aren't, but what they ARE is inefficient, hot, they use lots of electricity, and the stock fans are very loud.

Most likely, you're either going to have to buy a new graphics card (there were only a few LGA775 mobo's with AGP ports ever made), so you might consider waiting. Unless you just need to have a cpu to put under your pillow, NOW. :)
