converting to core duo 2, need some advise

Hi

My current rig is in my sig below (but for those who cant be assed to look ill put it here aswell)

Amd athlon 64bit 3500+
MSI Neo 4 motherboard
2gb ddr valueselect corsair ram
XFX 7800GTX
200gb HD with xp pro x64 OEM
160gb with vista RC1

Now my 3500+ is starting to feel slow and slugish and while i have the money id like to upgrade to core duo 2.

Everything will stay the same accept the mobo, ram and CPU.

Im planning to upgrade to:

Asus P5N32-SLi SE Deluxe nForce4 SLi X16 (Socket 775) PCI-Express Motherboard

Are you going to run SLI???? if not, why get an SLI board. Also can you find another mobo you like besides Asus. I would get either Gigabyte, MSI, anything but Asus.

yea i have never had a problem wit gigabyte always solid and stable its all i use built my last 6 or 7 comps wit them.

Buy the XMS2-6400C5 instead. Higher speed ram will beat the lower latency stuff and there is only £6 difference.

That mobo uses the nforce 4 for intel chipset, which is now two generations old. I'd go for this one instead:

I would go with this board P5N32-E SLI Asus of corse. It uses the new Nvidia 680I Chip set that will support even the Quad-cores as well as 1333 FSB. Helz ya. Enjoy

P.S.
I can't count the number of both MSI and Gigabyte borads i have replaced for customer in my 10 years as a PC Tech. Usually for blown Caps. That is why i will never buy either. That being said I know alot of you have had good success with them and my hat is off to you, but i will never by one due to my experiances. Thanks for listening

Yeh i will use sli in the future so id like a board with SLI.

the problem if this was AMD i would know exactly what to get. But im no expert in Intel boards and dont know what to look for!

here you go, intel and SLI.

If you like to spend hours upon hours to figure out stuff, and to get your computer to run properly, then by all means get an Asus. If you like the plug everything in, and turn the power and have do what you got to do, get something else. Every Asus board i have mess with, and at least 4 other friends of mine have all been finicky. Either it wont read the SPD right, or the sound is mess up... i can go on with stuff. The point is there's somethign always with them.

Also this board will not run at ddr800 there is a bios upgrade out for it to run it a ddr800 fine for desktop work but playing online games ie BF2 ect will crash back to desktop after 5 mins.

Go for a board with the new 680i chipset ie P5N32-E SLI from Asus also the EVGA board has a good write up thats the one i will be going for in easter and will be replacing my 7900gtx 512 with 8800gtx

Iam holding off to change my board until easter to see if any bios problems are ironed out.

As roucious said stay away from MSI and Gigabyte i have had nothing but issuses with these boards and the amount of Gigabyte boards my mate has had to change in his shop is unreal.

We are oposite's here. I have never had problems with MSI or Gigabyte, but always with Asus.
Maybe is cause were in different continents :laugh:

Just find a board that you like. And go read reviews on it online, and you decide.
