i have questions about booting up windows. everytime i restart or turn on my pc, i require the windows cd to be in drive for my computer to properly load. on my previous computers, and everyone in my house windows can just load without the need of the cd. my question is: is there any way to load up windows without the need of the cd in my cd drive? and if there is can anyone instruct me or refer me to a place where i can do it?

so you have re formatted the HD, and then installed XP correct?

It only usually says this if you want to reinstall, XP again.
ie i install xp, i then restart the pc, but leaving the cd in drive & then a screen will appear and say something like do you want to start windows, if you click this it thinks your wanting to reinstall xp again.
You need to do a full format, then once its completed restart your pc, take the cd out & hopefully it will boot.Comment

i see, i'll definitely try that tonic, thx. also, could it be because i ahve 2 hard drives?? and i have 1 that is roughly 20 gigs in which i install windows in, and another that is 150 for everything else, can this be a reason too?Comment

Set your BIOS to boot from C:\ (or D:\ if that is where you have your MBR) and leave "search for other boot devices" disabled.
See if that fixes things.Comment

Unless he or she has the jumper settings incorrect on the Primary (PRI0/1) and Secondary (SEC0/1) channels. Could be that the Optical drive is set to be the primary master.Originally posted by CHARGER_76
If so, putting everything on CS (cable select) and plugging the HD with window$ on it into the Primary EIDE at the last spot on the ribbon should fix it.
