HELP with windows?! thanks

hey guys had some serious problems with windows today..my computer froze while playing company of heroes tutorial so i reset it and while the windows scrolling bar kept scrolling, my hdd was inactive...i went through all kinds of stuff like installing windows on another partition because when i tried repairing this installalation, something wrong happened and it would no longer detect it as a valid installation....sorry if thats confusing, but i ended up being able to reinstall windows on C: and my files are still here, but none of my associations or anything are still intact such as my desktop...I was wondering if there was any way to rebuild my registry or something that would allow all of my programs to run without reinstalling everything? thanks

dont think there is, only way is before trying to install windows is to backup your registry,

which i would do every week or so

Not possible at this point, methinks. The good news is that a formatted hard drive (backup your important data first, though!), three pots of coffee, and one Saturday morning devoted to installing and upgrading Bill Gates' software should have you up and running again.
