Question for those that have DSL

I currently have high speed internet through my cable provider and the speed of my internet connection and data transfer speed has never been a problem for me when playing BF2.

I have never used DSL for gaming, but I am moving in about a month and am thinking about getting DSL through AT&T. At their cheapest rate of $14.99 per month, I can get download speeds up to 768 kbps. For those that have DSL, will this speed affect my gameplay of BF2? If so, what type of download speed should I look for?

Here are a couple of options AT&T DSL:

Lowest: $14.99 -download speeds up to up to 768 kbps

Next: $19.99 - download speeds up to 1.5 Mbps

Next: $24.99 - download speeds up to 3.0 Mbps

Highest Speed: - $34.99 - download speeds up to 6.0 Mbps

Any information would be appreciated.

Same thing here, I had Comcast's Cable before moving and now I'm using AT&T.

The speed is way lower, and sometimes it drives me crazy not working at all.
I'd recommend you to use cable.

I am run on DSL, its reliable if you hook all the cables up properly and filter out the phone lines. There is not really a connection problem for Battlefield 2 muliplayer. I run on highest speed, no download problems, downloading 1 GB takes about 5 hours.

well, i think u should get the 1.5Mbps. I worked pretty well for me, just make sure u do this

hook all the cables up properly and filter out the phone lines

wireless sometimes give spike in ping, but overall playable

Thanks for your imput guys. I would totally like to stay with cable, but I'm trying to save a couple of bucks by going with DSL instead. The ping spikes are of concern, but I wouldn't bother me if I'm still getting my kills =).

If anyone else has more information about their DSL experience, please post.

I have 3Mbit DSL from Verizon in a rural part of Va. I can dowload files at around 385 KBps max. playing BF2 online, my pings on my favorite servers ares usually around 35-50ms.

With cable, there is a possibility you're sharing some bandwidth with others, with DSL, all bandwidth is yours.

I pay $30 for mine, and have never had any problems playing BF2 using it.

I, too, have AT&T DSL. I'm going at 1.5mbps and don't really have any problems with it anymore. It used to be a total hassle when I lived downtown, but once my family moved I've had no problems the DSL connection.

I have a friend who works for Bell South as a cable splicer.
DSL preformance is dependant on your distance to the " Fiber hut " you are tied into. 18,000 ft is the max and speed atinuates off the further you are, my friend says they have trouble running DSL over 13,500 ft.

1 mile = 5,280 ft

I download at around 150kbps only....pings around 10-130. Still, its only around 20 CDN a month.
