my cd drive opens and closes,but it doesnt detect cd's. i recently swapped in all my stuff into a new case. and YES my IDE cable is plugged in all the way! can it just be that my IDE cable is messed up? and if i want to get a new one....are they all universal?

I had this problem about a month ago.
CD drives are obviously hardware, so as they get used they get worn.
You may of had just a week drive so i suggest you buy a new one.
You MAY also check inside to see if the IDE cables are ok or if somethin poped but i think that its just to worn down. -

Or, maybe there are some drivers that you need to download?
The funny thing is, he told me that he used the same drive to install xp but now it doesnt work. So, I wouldn't think it would be worn out.Comment

My other half swears by Sony burners. And she knows her stuff lol
She goes through 2 x 100 spindles a week and the sony is still going strong.

some peeps really dont know what there talking about.
Installing drivers for a cd drive doesnt effect anything, in fact theres next to 0 drivers you install except your installation disk you get for the cd drive.Comment
