Hi all,

I've got about 2.5K to spend on a new comp and I was just after some advice. Here are the specs of the comp I'm thinking of building:

Case: NZXT LEXA Tower 400W Case W/ Side-panel Window

CPU: (Sckt775)Intel® Core™ 2 Duo X6800 Extreme Edition @ 2.93GHz 1066FSB 2x2MB L2 Cache

Motherboard: Asus P5N32-SLI SE Deluxe nForce4 SLI Chipset LGA775 Supports Core 2 Duo CPU FSB1066 DDR2/800 Mainboard w/GbLAN, USB2.0, IEEE1394& 7.1Audio

Memory: (Req.DDR2 MainBoard)2GB (2x1GB) PC6400 DDR2/800 Dual Channel Memory (Corsair Value Select or Major Brand)

Video Card: NEW!!! NVIDIA GeForce 7950 GX2 1GB 16X PCI Express Video Card

Monitor & LCD: Gaming LCD ViewSonic VX922 19& quot; (2ms White-Black-White Typ) SXGA LCD Display Monitor

Hard Drive: Single Hard Drive (160GB SATA-II 3.0Gb/s 8MB Cache 7200RPM HDD)

I'm not sure whether to get the 7950 GX2 gfx card or get two lesser cards running in SLI. Would two cards give me better performance over the one uber card?

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

thats fine will run bf2 easily, depends on how much memory each video card has

Choose a better Hard drive with 16mb cache still SATAII. Also, definately get a better PSU (or case without PSU) get a name brand, i.e. Antec, OCZ, mushkin, enermax, like that. Other than that your good to go

Well, I was thinking of getting two 7950 GT's with 512Mb each. Just wondering if I would get better performace with the two cards in SLI.

Oh yeah, forgot the PSU. It's gonna be a Enermax Noisetaker EG701AX-VE(W) SFMA 24P.

Should've said so earlier as well - I want this comp to have a long life, as futre proof as possible. With that in mind should I wait out for Vista and Direct X 10?

Why not go for Nvidia's DX10 cards. Its only a little more expensive and itll help your comp be more future proof.

Which ones are the DX 10 cards? That means I'll have to wait for Vista as well though won't it?

8800 GTX / GTS are the DX10 cards and no you wont have to wait for vista to come out they will work with DX9, they need a minimum of a 500w Power Supply, so something like a 600w would be better,

they cost a small fortune for some

first of all are you into overclocking ? IF not you must be idiot to buy x6800 Extreme editon or either just rich . You could easily get e6600 and 8800GTS/GTX for that money.( no offence )

No, I'm not into overclocking (witchcraft, voodoo andhoodoo if you ask me). Admitedly if I stepped down a level on the CPU it would give me a bit more flexibility to dpend more in other areas, but I looked into the DX10 cards. It won't cost that much more overall, and it should spank the GeForce 7950 GX2. SLI would be irrelevant with this card as well. w00t!

I did look into stepping down a level on the CPU and it turns out I can now get TWO 8800GTS running in SLI! This should handle any game I can throw at it on all the highest settings!

I put together a system for a buddy of mine with the same motherboard and it is rock solid. I even got myself the same mobo too. The only problem with this mobo is that is not good for overclocking from what i read but i am not an overclocker so i am fine with it.

My friend is running that mobo with a Intel core 2 duo 2.4 and Patriot 2gb pc2 800 on raid 0 - 2x 250gb segates hd's with a BFG 7950GT

I'm building the same system as him.

Well if your going to spend a grand on cpu, might as well get the quad core cpu coming out soon. And for HD i would be the Raptor 150GB, and if you got the moeny two of them.
