Hi folks. As indicated in the title, I'm trying to get a good idea of how far I can safely push my x800xt AIW. Before I get started, the relevant specs are:
p4 3.0E prescHott (cooled by an arctic cooler super silencer 4 ultra tc)
2x512mb ddr 400
ECS P4M800PRO-M478
and an ATI x800xt AIW (cooled by an artic cooling ATI silencer 1 rev 2 and aluminum bridge-type (BIG) ramsinks)
oh, and I have 3 x 120mm fans (2 pushing in fresh air, one pulling it out the back, along with the 92mm psu exhaust)
My temps are always great; the two 120mm's pushing fresh air are thermally controlled by the PSU, and I've cut a hole in the side of my desk and installed filters to keep the air clean. I started overclocking the gpu about three months ago, right after I slapped the silencer on it. Stock, it's rated for 500/500(gddr3=1000mhz) (core/memory) I o'cd to 527/540 and that runs rock-stable.
So, lately I've been pushing it with BF2. 555/600mhz (1200mhz) was "stable" for about 90 minutes of BF2, and then I had a lock up. Temps were still under 61C--they NEVER get above 61C anymore, btw. I backed it down to 544/577, and so far, so good. I just wrapped up 2 hours of BF2, no crash.
My question is whether or not knowledgeable folks think I should try to push the card any harder. I get--what I consider, anyway--a great gaming experience. BF2 runs at 1280x1024, and a mix between high and medium settings.
Oh, btw, I use ATI tool .24 for o'cing and the latest official drivers from ATI.
Input from anyone else that overclocks their x800xt would be appreciated, as would anyone who is familiar with how far you can/should safely push the gpu. Note, I want to get the max safe o'c on it, but I DO NOT WANT TO FRY IT. I'm still planning on waiting until Core2 duo is old news before building a new system for gaming.
