    Need help with sound

I just reinstalled xp and I can't get the sound card to work. It's onboard and I have downloaded all the drivers and the sound works in the little control panel for the driver but not in windows. Theres no icon or anything to control the sound levels and when I try to play a song, it says there is no sound card installed.

    Any help will be appreciated!

Does the sound actually work? e.g do you have sound in games, do you have the default windows sound?

The beep is actual computer sound, everyone has that.

Try re-installing the drivers. What is your sound anyway? Mine is just onboard Realtek C-Media, I just dl'd the drivers and it worked, before I had the same issue as you. Also try adding hardware, the option in Windows control panel etc. Just see if it detects it. Then if not try detecting everything connected, your onboard sound should come up in that list whatever it is then click on it and add it.

I reinstalled the drivers and windows sees the onboard card which is a realtek high def thing. It says it is using it but nothing happens..

Edit- I downloaded a driver from a different site and it works!

          Thanks for the help

Go into the BIOS and check your sound, check that its actually enabled for the mobo.
