Ok I've got a problem over here

My problem is that I somehow got infected with the "qqpass.dy" Trojan which on some websites it says it's meant for a Chinese IM Client. lol Ok So I wanted to do a clean reinstall of windows but I noticed I didn't had a Windows XP CD. Because I have a Dell.

What they do is put a folder on your pc called I386 which contains the files for the Windows XP Setup. But how do I completely remove everything off my PC and then can reinstall XP on it? Since I want to get rid of the trojan and virus scanners aren't helping either I tried :

Mcafee, Antivir, AVG, Avast (Which noticed the Trojan) & Adaware all these have completely run whilst only Avast found it. And it keylogs things so It'll probably be logging this message.

So I mean do I only have to insert the CD (Since I made a .iso image of the I386 folder so I already made a bootable cd for in the future and now.) But my question was:

Do I only have to insert the CD and it will ask me if I completely will wipe all the data of my drive? And I've got 2 S-ATA drives in RAID-0 or something will this bring up any problems?

Well, I am not sure about the first part, I think that is how it works, but don't take my word for it.

For the second question, it shouldn't bring up any problems. I have 2 drives on RAID-O with S-ATA, and my computer just sees it as one big drive.

Well ok I'm going to insert the Boot-able I just created. And see what it asks. Thanks for the help anyway. :)

That what i was going to say, but if you find a friend with a Win XP cd, just use it, but use the key on your computer sticker, if you dont want all the dell preinstall crap.

Ok I created the Bootable CD but when I have it in the drive and reboot the pc it won't detect it ok normal so I go to the BIOS and I had a look at the Boot Settings and it said at everything SATA , IDE , Intell Array , USB Device that it wasn't present though I could boot normally? In a matter of fact I'm behind the PC right now typing this message.

I've fixed the Boot sequence but I get an error now that says that the file Iastor (iastor.sys) is missing. I've had to now use a "Dell Fix Plugin" So it'll probably fine since I also have a Dell!

Well it's now gotten to a point that I'm getting annoyed :)
There are a few missing files which if I just skip them give me
the "Blue screen" with a long error code. The missing files are:

- Mstask.ini
- Plugin.ocx

As a notice I've completely Uninstalled Internet Explorer 6 but I did it trough
windows not a complete remove of extra files which are in windows. Also
I've had this earlier with the other PC where I'm on now.


How much problems can a company prevail by just giving customers a Winxp CD. . .

God.. I'm really lost now I still can't find the two files called Plugin.ocx and Mstask.ini I'm really stuck and Google won't help me either :\

Progress:

I've now found the Plugin.ocx file and I'm going to set it in the i386 Directory in a few moments now the Mstask.ini is only left I'm going to find that file and I'm going to find it fast :evil:

Well it seems that it didn't worked out and I get a blue screen even though the files are correct now but when installing it asks for wmploc.dll but I can keep finding all these files but it will never come to an end. That's why I have a question:

My serial number which is Geniune (I ordered my Dell with Media Center) but whilst installing it says Service Pack II well ok. So I'll continue my questin is it possible though I have a real serial I could maybe borrow/download the Winxp installation and enter my Serial Key? Or isn't it as simple as that?

I don't think it will work, because you said it came with WMC, well i think that your serial number was already register before aw WMC, and it was sold as so. Once you try to activate it might not let you. I am almost 100% sure it wont. You can try, but i doub that it will let you.

I've fixed it

My problem was:

I wanted to re-install Windows XP on a Dell it had a i386 Folder which I wanted to use. Appeared files were corrupt ( Plugin.ocx, Wmploc.dll and Mstask.ini )

So it went wrong at i386 I used some PE Environment or something (BartPE) and that's where it went wrong. Trough this I deleted the Windows folder & Program Files folder.

But luckily Dell ads a System Restore on your sytem which restores the system to your original state it was on a partition. So I wanted to fix this DSR ( Dell System Restore ) Since I couldn't execute it (You execute it by pressing CTRL + F11 at the bootup ).

I made a Windows 98 SE Bootable Floppy and on the other floppy I put the DSRFIX on. So I changed the Boot sequence and had a External USB Floppy Drive connected (Since I don't have a floppy drive ) It booted up fine I finally was in the DOS where I wanted to be in and I could execute DSRFIX and check what happened to my Dell System Restore. Seemed the the Boot Code had some problems.

So I repaired it and rebooted the system cold and finally I could press CTRL + F11.

So my system restore got running but at the end it told me that the Sytem Restore was NOT succesfull.. Though around a hour ago I installed XP and I' on the PC right now typing this message.

Also this post is for future reference for users that do use the search function and have the same problem as me.

How old is your computer? Do you still have warranty thrug Dell?

It's now around four months old. So I think I still have the warranty and because my install was corrupted. If I'm right the warranty I had on it was one year. So I still have the warranty and I just used their system restore.

Well then i would give them a call, and try to get them to fix it for you.
