Re: networking
you probly have the sharing turned off, i can get into alot of peoples comps but they can only get into one of my folders. if u want a folder on each computer just create a new folder call it "dump" or anythin else u want right click on it the click on "sharing and security.." then under the sharing tab click on "share this folder on the network" and "allow network users to change my files" click ok and bingo you will have a folder on your comp that anyone in the network can access put things into and copy from -
Re: networking
r u sure the computers are all logged into the same domain?
and make sure that when u share files, under security, it gives a list of who is allowed to use this file in ur network...also, u should make it not read onlyComment

Re: networking
If you have 3pc's odds are you have a router?
If so check settings in your router. And if you using wireless DONT use encryption, instead use MAC address filtering. Turn of encryption, goto MAC address filtering and add the addresses of the wireless pc's.
Only the added MAC address's can access the router (wired pc's are OK obviosly)
Once you done that, start your sharing again. Turn on folder/printer sharing again and you should be fine.
This might not be your problem. But to anyone with a wireless router.... this is good advise. MAC address filtering is totally secure compared to wireless encryption

Re: networking
OK so you have a wired router. Is all 3 PC's connected directly to the router or are you using windows (or other) sharing for 1 or more PC to access the internet?
Disconnect your router from the net, disable windows firewall at all PC's. Change the network name to something other than WORKGROUP (default is not very secure) Run the sharing wizard AGAIN on all pc's. 3 PC's networked through a router should not really have a problem connecting (hell i fix/build alot of mates pc's. i hook up an ethernet cable from router and any new pc is ON my network)
Filesharing through a router should really be a piece of cake if you have file sharing enabled and netwok named correctly. Once you have PC's communicating, then connect router to the net (should have inbuilt firewall if decent router) so dont panic.
Install anti-virus on comps first, no real reason for a third party firewall if you have a router and A/V running.
Then if you must enable firewall on each comp untill you find the culpret.
Long winded and probably a lot of crap, but sharing 3 pc's connected to a router should be easy as pie :p
I can bring any pc in here, plug and play lolComment

Re: networking
ok so i unhooked my modem and disabled the firewalls. then i went to network setup wizard. set them all to the same group and enabled file sharing. did this to all 3 computers and rebooted and still nothing. thier has to be something i am missing and when i go to like sharing and security i have every option enabled for permissions mayb it is something thier, cause like i have stated each computer can see each other just only can acess one.Comment

Re: networking
Strange m8.
Log into your router and goto DHCP client list... are all PC's showing? Should be 3 MAC addresses
Take a note of all the MAC addressesComment

Re: networking
You will still need to set drives/folders/printers to share.Originally posted by bspun3Dok so i unhooked my modem and disabled the firewalls. then i went to network setup wizard. set them all to the same group and enabled file sharing. did this to all 3 computers and rebooted and still nothing. thier has to be something i am missing and when i go to like sharing and security i have every option enabled for permissions mayb it is something thier, cause like i have stated each computer can see each other just only can acess one.
If you have a drive on lets say PC A you need to set that to share (it should have a hand(icon) under it if shared) then on PC B goto network places/add new folder/whatever cant remember off hand lol..... then add that folder as a network place.
You still need to add folders/drives/printers to your shared network place.
Once added, then you can access them from PC B.
Having PC's networked does not give instant access to the whole PC

Re: networking
yes i understand what you are saying and i have tried 2 different things. such as right clicking my computer and going to map network drive, and add a network place. i have the main harddrive from each computer in my network places but they only show for the computer i am on still cannot see from different computers. i also get the error when i try to connect to my secondary computer "XXXXX" is not accessible you might not have permission to use the networ reseource contatct the admin if u have acess permissions.
also both the harddrives on my main computer are in network places and have the hands under them in the my computer =\
well night helped me on aim but the problem was......that easy file sharing option in folder options is really that damn easy! lol just enabled that and the rest was self explaintoryComment
