    7900GTX Vs. 8800GT

as you may well know james_1991-fight is getting a 7900GTX for christmas and as you may not know I am planning to get an 8800GT, but james has a P4 3.2 and 2GB DDR2RAM and I only have 1GB DDR400 RAM as it says in my sig you think with these rigs we will be able to coax out high graphics on BF2? and which do you think is better?

the 8800GT card may well be really good, but if its a DX10 card it may well have alot of issues, as with these new cards there is sometimes a testing time before they all start to come out.

              ^True. Your all confused.

The 7900 GTX is a beast of a card, I know it and you know it. James_1991 or whoever has the right idea wheather you like it or not, im buying that card as well and trust me it is the shiz. Anyway DX10 when it comes out in January or whenever it will still be somewhat unstable, drivers etc. So give it another 6 months for the 2nd line of DX10 cards to release that way all the testing from internet sites such as firing squad and testing by both Nvidia and ATI will be pure, therefore they will have a full idea on what to do.

Thats like nearly a year away, also take into consideration that DX10 cards will be $$$$$, new technology therefore a field for gamers, meaning companies can charge a lot. We are talking £400-£500 for the 8800 GTX probly £350 or something for the 8800 GT.

Crysis can be run in DX9 mode, only difference is the Shader model is 3.0 and DX10 cards have Shader model 4.0.

Also DX10 cards will have 768MB of RAM, while DX9 cards such as the 7900 GTX has 512MB. Games don't even utilize the full 512MB yet let alone 768MB. Thats mainly for people playing on massive screens.

So please stop filling anyone elses head with crap, you confuse the community and unsure buyers or new comers to the PC gaming and technology market.

No, not all DX10 cards will have 768mb of RAM:

DX10 ATI R600 cards will have 1 gig of RAM

It wouldn't be efficient for ATI video cards to have 768mb of RAM. It would be a waste of the true 512 bit interface.

I do know the report you are talking about, with Nvidia having 384 bit interfaces, and it is high suspect that that particular report is false.

8800GT is going to be massive in length. Take a 7900GTX and add another 1.5 inches on the end of the card and you have your 8800GT.

Even if you don't use it for DX10, the G80 is still going to be a beast. But I don't know of any games that are coming out between the G80 release and the R600 release that I would need more than my 7900gt for, so I'm just gonna stick with this for a couple more months.

But I definitely expect the 8800gt to be quite a bit more powerful than the 7900gtx.

lol, I disagree, due to the 7900 GTX 512MB being around £320 $500 or something and its a top of the range card that was released recently and the fact that its a beast. The 8800 GT, I doubt that will beat it. The 8800 GTX yes it will no doubt.

Don't be fooled. The 7950 GT isn't as good as the 7900 GTX. The 7950 GT got thrashed by the 7900 GTO in every benchmark.

I am getting a card and its gonna be the 8800GT unless I can keep a 7900GT/GTX going for about 5 years or so

                              8800 GT > 7900 GTX

                              why?

                              320 bit interface > 256 bit interface

                              GDDR4 > GDDR3

                              ~700m transistors > 278m transistors

                              DX10 > DX9.0c

up to 1.5 Ghz core clock > 650 mhz core clock (stock GTX version)

Support for HDR+MSAA > One or the other

Just because it got released "just recently" and "the fact that its a beast" doesn't mean squat. Remember with the 7800 series? It was out only a few months when the 7900 series came out. The 7800 series was the top of the line card, and was very expensive when the 7900 series came out.

The 8800 GT will be much faster than the 7900 GTX. You are wrong. I have just proven such.
