patch + AF wont install

i have BF deluxe edition which installs and loads no prob. ive downloaded AF using ea downloaded but when i install it i get an MD5 error.

ive also downloaded the patch and when i try to install it it either cuts off half way through or i get a "installation failed" message.

why would the game install and run yet i have these other issues.

these probs have only started since i reinstalled windows last week.

athlon 2800mhz
ati radeon 256mb 9600 pro
windows xp home

ok just tryed to install another game and i get a "error 1607 installshield scripting runtime error" message

it seems that some games will install and some wont, some will patch and some wont.

please help as ive been having these probs for almost 2 weeks

how do i install thepatch in safe mode and how will that fix the probs?

i just tryed to repair windows and got these errors

"fatal error, setup failed to install product catalogs"

"software installation has not passed windows logo testing to verify its compatibility with windows xp"

now when i try to install patch the system freezes.
i have a retail copy of windows so its not as though i have a dodgy copy.

im thinkin of reinstallin windows again (for the 7th time).
why would i get these errors?
