    Vid card tost?

Video card: MSI 8989 Ver 10 Geforce 6600 GT

A few months back the stock heat sink on my vid card bit the big one, but it would still run BF just fine as long as i opened the case and stuck a fan on it (household use type). Well, i finally got off of my butt and bought a replacement Vid Card cooler (Zalman FS-V7 fully compatible by thier say-so) installed using the instructions for once, loaded up BF2 and the computer locked up at the kit select. Ok, BF2 does that sometimes so I reboot. Upon getting back in it does the same thing...i sit there and cuss for a minute and then the screen goes to blocky colors...kinda like low res white noise but in color.

So, I take the vid card back out and low and behold the highspeed little heat sinks for the RAM kept the main fan from seating completely on the GPU. Fixed that but still have the same problem whenever I boot up using the card. Is the card toasted or is there some way i can refresh the vid card BIOS or something? I do still have an old PCI vid card sitting around that I can use to see the display for this process but I really don't have any idea how to do it other than the abstract idea that it can be done.

I'm 99% sure it's toast but ANY ideas about possible fixes for it would be greatly appreciated. I'm running on a Geforce 3 card right now and that is darn near hopeless to play with and can't afford a new vid card for at least a month or more.

(ARGH when it overheated before it would just reboot the system..shoulda left well enough alone /sigh)

Thanks for the quick reply. I shold have been more clear though. It is giving me the splotchy colors upon powering her up in the BIOS post screen.
