Weird problem getting computer started.

Hey guys,

I recently got the system in my sig together and noticed that the rear ports (USB, PS/2 etc) did not work. I returned it for a replacement, shortly after attempting to overclock the cpu a bit more the computer would not reboot, it would just power on and off every 3 seconds, and no power got to it after a few minutes.

I got the new board, exact same model, and a new PSU. Put everything back together and still no power to the board. I test jumped the PSU, and it works.fine. Then I noticed the Case's power switch area (top of the case) smelled like fried electronics. Figuring it was the case and switches I borrowed a different switch set from another case and it still didn't work.

Is this another dead board? If so I am going to get a refund and get an ASUS.

I have also tried putting everything together outside of the case and it still won't even get the slightest bit of power. I have tested the PSU and it is fine.

What faulty part will cause a no-boot no-power situation without and POST code?

Make sure all parts, memory, vid card etc are seated correctly in their slots. Some motherboards, I have one, require a separate 12V black/yellow cable usually to be connected to the board in order to boot. Completely bypass the case's power switch and short the 2 pins (on the board) together that go to the powerswitch in order to turn on the computer. See if that helps.

Thank you for the reply. I already tried jumping the connector with a screw driver and nothing happened. A bad CPU would still allow the mobo to get power right?
