Hmmm. Yup, I read them. Perhaps I didn't explain myself simply enough for
    you to understand it.

Of course the Core Duo is better but not by a lot when you take the two
into account in comparison to the difference better graphics cards can
yeild. The Core Duo is a new processor, and 5 times the price of the older
AMD 64, yet it only yields a 30% performance increase when used for gaming.

On the other hand, if we take an X1300 and an X1900, their prices are
about the same difference as the processors, yet the X1900 is over 4 times
    quicker than the X1300.

Now, its late in my timezone, but I'm pretty sure that means GPU has a lot
bigger role to play in gaming than CPU, and your gaming dollar gets you
more when spent on a graphics card above all else.

Unless there was something I was missing from your side of the debate?

Alan wake does use 5 threads, spread fairly equally (the sound thread and some other one works together on one core), so I think there definitely will be less choppiness of a Kentsfield than a single-core AMD.

But yeah for most games, you're not going to see that much of a difference between high-end processors, since most games are GPU-dependent

Yeah, I thought this was either common knowledge. Either that or hemimotorz knows something that completely contradicts everything I've seen, heard and experienced to do with PC gaming.

          And I quote.

I can't even find a CPU chart that is updated to compair. Now a Core 2 Duoe E6600 is going to be faster than anything on that this chart. Now find your out dated CPU and compare.

Tom's Hardware helps you buy the best hardware and build the best PC to play, create and work..

Dude, throught out this whole argument you've been a dumb @$$. The whole reason I called you out is cause you looked like a dumb @$$. Soo go back to your flesh light girlfriend and thinking you have a "life". When doctors can transplant brain in place of crap I'm sure you'll be the 1st to get some brains.

I'm not even going to debate that - a agree entirely. You're not actually reading the point of my original and successive posts. Perhaps I should number my points for you:

1)I agree the faster the CPU, the better the better game performance
2)Increases in performance as your CPU gets quicker/more advanced are in much smaller increments than the same in the world of GPUs
3)When building a game machine, you're better spending money on the best graphics card you can get rather than CPU as the former will yeild a better gaming performance increase IN COMPARISON to getting a better CPU.

Now, that seems pretty simple to me and just plain fact. If you read a few posts up, you'll see knghtwhosaysni agrees with my theory.

Maybe you have a counter argument to prove my statements otherwise, its hard to say as all you seem to do is spew profanities like you just learnt how to swear. And I can't vouch for the rest of the planet, but instead of making you seem like a big boy, you actually come off looking a complete tosser.

What I'm saying is graphic cards hardly make up 90% of gaming performance. everything is video card dependent. It wouldn't be called a video card. The diffrence changes with diffrent game engines do to how they use video cards. There is no way a XP 3000+ with a 7800GS(highist apg card you can get) is going to beat a Core 2 dou with a 7300. Doesn't matter how big graphic card margin changes. The proccessing power and chipset of any socket A processor isn't going to leave it bottle knecked.

Well ok, if you want to talk literally, you're right, they don't make up 90% of performance, but if you were building a PC from the ground up, the graphics card is going to matter most by a considerable margin.

Take this demo video which is the subject of this thread. Now, if you had a crap graphics card it simply wouldn't be possible, regardless of your CPU. You would HAVE to have a DX10 card, and a high end card at that ($350+). On the flipside, if you had a great card, you would be highly likely able to acheive the results in the video with virtually any current processor, including semprons and celerons.

A better CPU may give you a slight performance boost, but usually not in line with the extra amount it'll cost you. Case in point about a year ago I upgraded my CPU from a P4 2GHz to a P4 2.8GHzHT. The difference I saw in BF2 was pretty much undetectable. Then I upgraded from a 9700 Pro to an X800XT PE, and the difference was night and day.

GFX Card> CPU. 'nuff said. Bottleneck isn't the end all and be all...especially when you can get a great 4400+ processor for like half the price of a Conroe...when you get up that high..it doesn't even matter anymore.

The division between reality and virtual worlds is becoming smaller with emerging technology such as this. I remember about a year ago when Alan Wake was first announced and it was supposed to have next gen tech. I wasn't terribly impressed by the screenshots that were shown, but this goes to say that screenshots do not do justice when showing the true technology and prowness of the game.

For everyone that is getting all hot and bothered about the prospect of this game, don't forget to factor in the cost of Vista as well,

I’ll confirm that Alan Wake is Vista and 360 exclusive. I know some people have reacted strongly to that, but for us this was one of the key decisions that will allow us to create the best possible game.

We’ve locked this down a while ago, and being able to focus on fewer platforms means that the game is going to kick more *** than ever before. By going with Vista, we don’t have to compromise everything to the lowest common PC denominator and since we’re not doing a PS3 version we can go all out with PC and 360 multithreading, HDR rendering etc. This focus benefits the tech and game design immensely.
