It seems like my comp "refreshes" itself...

Alright, this has been happening for a while, and every probably hour or so, my computer starts lagging for about 1min, and then it goes back to normal. It happens no matter what I'm doing. (BF2, just browsing, etc.)

My question is: Is this caused by Norton Internet Security (which I'm running obviously), or is it something else?

Well if you dont have enouf ram and you constantly running norton then of corse it makes lag. With 1.5gb ram you should be ok

I have 1.25GB, but yeah I thought it was Norton... I don't really want to install it and lose all the updates though (I paid for it...)

I don't think so mate. He says he has this problem when he is just browsing so I fail to see him having "only" 1.25GB is the problem.

I experience a similar problem except it is more like 10-20 seconds and maybe every other hour. I run AVG Free for anti-virus protection.

It doesn't freeze, just slows down.

Well try turning off Norton InterCrap Security and see if the problem persists.
NIS is a horrendous resource hog. Maybe it is a scheduled virusscan? diskdefragmentation? It could be a lot of things really.

Try checking your scheduled tasks to see if there is any resource hungry programs intended on running on every hour.

It might be bad RAM. Run a Memtest. As well, take a look at your temps and CPU fan.
