Hard Drive problem, need some help.

Hi,
Just recieved a 120gb seagate Hard Drive (sataI Barracuda 7200.7) from an ebay seller. It's an exact match to the one I already have.
Building a new system, but don't have all components yet so I thought I would test the drive on my current system.
I have 3 drives on that system.. two ata and the sata. One of the ata drives has windows on it and the sata also has windows (use that to boot a relatively clean version of windows for gaming).
I simply replaced my current sata drive with the new one and powered on.
Getting a boot error...asking me to insert bootable disk.
Rehooked up old sata and it started right up again.
So I changed my boot.ini to take out the line about the second version of windows, powered down and swithed to the new sata drive again.
same error...
do I have a bad disk or am I just doing something wrong?

Has the drive been formatted ever or is it fresh from the factory? You'll need to format it or put something on it if its new.

make sure the drive you putting in is the same as the one youre taking out.

by this i mean.

you say you took out one of youre harddrives and put the new one in and it doesnt load,but when you put youre old one back in it does load.

i suspect that you may not have the jumpers set up right.

check the hd you took out and see if its master/or slave
then make sure the new drive you put in is on the same channel.

from experince i have had the same error's as you when 2 drives were both set to master on the same ide channel.

your motherboard has two connections for SATA, so why dont you just hook up the new Sata drive and format it through windows, you shouldnt have to remove the other one, unless you didnt get any extra cables with it, but you can buy them

You should have some extra SATA slots.

Just plug the drive into that and connect it to the power supply then format via windows just like Scinto said.
