Re: Help me build my dell

(if you plan to get 2142 aswell) you would need 1.5gb-2gb ram minimum
and your limited to AGP cards only so either a 7600GS or if you can afford it 7800GS
cant think of any good ATi AGP cards

edit; oh yeah you need to find out what your Rams speed is either PC2700 or PC3200 so you can match the ram you buy to your original

You need more RAM (2G would be nice) and a new video card. Look on the used market, you can get low prices on ATI X800 series card, 6800GT's or 6800GS from nvidia. You can also still get some as new cards. 7600GS card are too slow (same as 6600GT) and 7800GS are way too expensive, you would be better with a 7600GT instead, especially since it's as fast.

You will need a 7800GS and 2 GB of RAM to run everything on high. I had a ATI X800 before and some settings had to be on medium ( dynamic lightning, dynamic shadows, texture). Also, you CPU is kind of getting old...

why have you listed PCI-express cards if its the original motherboard it would only support AGP cards....

Re: Help me build my dell

Also, check you power supply. It seems that this Dell has a 250W power supply I don't think it will be enought for a 7800GS.

Maybe the best for you is to buy something like a X1600PRO AGP 256MB for around 100$ and forget the play with everything on high with that computer for now... Save your money and upgrade your entire computer later!

(PS, if you buy a very good video card now, it will not be compatible with a new computer. Same thing for the memory... )

good point with the power supply that card will need alot of power, my 6800gs needs a fair bit of power plus 2 power plugs, had to scarifice a harddrive for it
