Anyone have a list of services i can and can not disable. Id like to get down to 14 processess. Im at 17 running in the background right now.

I only have 13 processess in the background running as of right now. Id post the image but its in 1280x1024. Thanks for the link sickie. Btw i have the same OS.

Update: make that 12 running in the background.

Did you format your pc or something, you hardly have any processes running, right now I have 38 processes running.

Well you could make it less even though its not really needed to do that but whatever.

You have two internet browsers IE and Firefox, remove one. On ADD/REMOVE click Add/Remove Windows components and IE will show up, or you can remove Firefox, even though Firefox is more secure.

The others are mainly system processes that are needed.

csrss.exe is a system process do not remove.
svchost is difficult but it is a system process but there is also a virus that uses that process, I have svchost, same as you 2 or 3 of them.
lsass is to do with Windows security.
services is needed thats for Windows operations basically, like reebooting etc.
logon.exe basically what it says, login and log off procedures on your system.
smss is for your Windows sessions.

I don't know why you want to get rid as many as posible, not enough RAM or something? but those are all System processes minus IE and Firefox. You need them. I see you have System mechanic and other cleaners, your either paranoid about security and traces on your PC or your hiding from the FBI lol.

Im more or less paranoid about security. And junk files tend to take up HD space which i need. And i have 2 gigs of ram so im not worried about that since my motherboard can handle up to 8 gigs.

Okay well you need to defrag on a daily basis and disk cleanup.

Suggest that you download a program called 'diskeeper' its a good defrag program, since Windows when you store a file on your computer it usually spreads it around the harddrive rather than in one place so you need to defrag, since your paranoid about it, go into control panel and set up a schedueld task for the program to run at a certain time, or you can do it yourself.

If you really want best performance then format once a month or more if your really that paranoid. I really only reconmend that if you can backup stuff you want on CD's/DVD's etc or a 2nd harddrive/external.

Is there a version of diskeeper that is free? Also i have a program called speed disk from norton systemworks would that be just as good?
