I just got my pc back from upgrade last night

1x CPU Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 S755 overclocked to 3.0ghz
1x Antec neo truepower 3.0 supply 650w
1x Zalmen flower cooling cpu fan
1x Asus P5N32 SLI SE DELUXE
1x Tsunami thermaltake case
2x 1gb sticks of OCZ DIMM 2 GB DDR2-800 Kit
2x 7900gtx 512 fitted with Zalman VF900 cooling fans
1 x Western digital raptor 74gb
1 x Western digital cavair 160gb
2 x dvd/dvdrw
1 x dell 2405 24" monitor


I was using an AMD 4000 oc to 3.0ghz m8 i can see a massive improvement for one i benchmarked on 3DMARK06 at 10251 on my old rig it was 7560

My system is running very fast and also i might add when i load up a new map on BF2 i am first in get first choice of any vehicle and capture at least one flag before anybody else gets in the game

The moterboard iam using is a great SLI board but is not the best for oc it still has a few bios issues but the P5W DH DELUXE is the best board for overclocking but thios board does not run SLI

Uhm...I hear something talking about overclocking. I have NO IDEA how I have to do that. So if I buy a 'clean' Core 2 Duo, and I dont overclock it, is it still better then AMD processors?

The e6600, e6700, and x6800 are all without a doubt better than the AMD processors at similar prices. Honestly the $330 e6600 is beaten by the $700 FX-62 in only a very few benchmarks, and there isn't an AMD processor out that can compete with the e6700 or x6800.

As for the two Allendale chips, the $180 e6300 performs between the $180 4200+ and the $519 5000+, sometimes even higher than the 5000+, but for sure is almost always at least slightly better than the 4200+. The $225 e6400 is almost pretty much always better than the $235 4600+, and fairly often surpasses the 5000+, even the FX-62 in some cases.

So I'd say that even at stock, the Core 2 Duos are still quite a bit better. But I think you really should overclock them , as it's really easy to learn, and with some memory rated at 800mhz, you can get a 1ghz overclock really easily.

Hmm okay, overclocking.. So if I overclock the E6300 it will be better then all AMD's :P But what do you mean with 'memory 800mzh'? You mean processor memory of RAM memory or what? ^^ Btw, do I also need extra coolers to overclock the Core 2 Duos? And I also need a new motherboard dont I?

You will most likely need a new motherboard, unless the one you have right now is pretty new. 965 shipset boards have been working great for overclocking at a reasonable price, namely the P5B from Asus or the 965P-DS3 from Gigabyte.

By the 800mhz memory, I mean system RAM that is rated to run at an effective rate of 800mhz. It's also classified as PC2 6400. Some examples: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...n=&srchInDesc=

To get a 1ghz overclock, you would probably need to get an aftermarket cooler, which will cost about $35-$50. You can do a milder overclock with the stock heatsink/fan. A very popular HSF: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835185037

There's some inconsistencies in what you're saying.

I'm usually in the first 2 or 3 to arrive. Capping flags and spawning is impossible because the "Game will begin in..." timer is still counting down.

I have an AMD 3200, o'clocked to 3800 speed.

It stands to reason that if you and I were joining the same game we'd spawn at exactly the same time.

Overclocking is pretty risky. It can fry your computer and leave you crying when the company refuses to refund you.

Not all servers have much of a pre-game timer. Even if they do, it's usually about 13 seconds or so.

Overclocking is hardly risky as long as you have decent cooling and don't raise the voltage that high.

I just switched from a P4 3GHz to a E6300. The C2D's are great CPU's and very easily overclockable. While BF2 refuses to function my new system that is not caused by the CPU I'm sure. Not sure if 4Mb versus 2Mb cache on these CPU's makes that much difference.

Yes, but regardless I'm always ready to spawn before the timer is finished. Sometimes it's 3 seconds, sometimes longer. Nobody ever spawns before me on any server. The first 1 to 4 players always spawn together.

Not all servers have that. SFR was notorious for not having a timer. Whenever I'd get into a Karkard map on their server with my AMD setup they would already have the Square flag capped with an APC on the way to Suburb with only a few people already loaded into the server.

I just upgraded from a 3500+ at 2.6ghz and this Core 2 Duo smoked the heck out of it at the stock 2.13ghz. Now, at 3.2 with only .025v increase, this setup gets me into each server before my old setup would get me to the 62% point where the loading would stop for 10+ seconds. I have been in first about 50% of the time, and am always in before the 5th person makes it in.

I was getting 30-40fps in Sharqi with my AMD, now I'm getting 70-140 (with the FPS lock off). I have been a huge fan of AMD since i got into PC gaming, but Intel made an absolutely insane CPU. This CPU has brought my 7900GT to life, and can't even be compared to any AMD offerings.

I can load or install any program in a fraction of the time it took the AMD. This switch has been the best thing I have ever done to my computer, even better than my switch from my old ALL IN WONDER 7200 to my Nvidia 5600 256MB, which was quite a leap.

Not all servers have that.

No servers in my region (Oceania) have not got a timer. I did notice doubling my ram halved map loading speeds, so map loading speed appears to be ram dependent, but obviously the cpu must have some effect.

The Intel E series are really the best buy for now (and I'm a hard out AMD fan).
