So really, how GOOD is this graphics card that I am getting???

I have my computer and I did order the new graphics card from circuit city. I know I know. But its a good price. Its the eVGA GeForce 7950 GT 512mb. I guess its pretty new and I was wondering because some people are like OMG when I tell em I have it now.

Heres a quick link to it: http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/EVGA-...oductDetail.do
You can google it too if yah want but thats just real quick

Oh one last question, the dumb question but do you think I will be able to MAX out all the settings?

(BTW I also picked up a 550watt power supply because I realized the 400 watt won't cut it when I install the graphics card)

    :) Thanks

I have an eVGA geforce 7600 256mb PCI-E card running 580mhz core clock and I have every possible setting on the max including 4xAA. You can get my card for about 150 bucks.

            So you do the math.

He will have the GT version if it's got a 580/590 core clock.

that card is 2 7900s stuck together, like sli, 2 of em = quad sli. of course u can probably run every game out on full, depending on ram. u sure it aint 1 gig, ive only seen 7950s at 1 gig, 2X512, its a pretty bad *** card but way over priced, squeezing every last dollar out of current tech. i woulda waited until the new cards came out.

jep i would wait for cards with the G80 (new nvidia chip , directx10 ready) or the r600 (new ATI chip ,also directx 10 ready) , although i heard they require alot of power (around 175 watt) . Thats why i 'only' got a 7600 gt with my new pc . I could've gotten a 7900 gtx or something but i decided to not splash the cash on that and wait for the 8800 .

Depends on your resolution and your other specs.

Max is something people throw around all the time and it doesn't mean squat unless you include the resolution your monitor is capable of out putting.

If you have a P.O.S LCD that has a max rez of 1280x1024 (or wide screen equivalent) "maxing" everything out doesn't mean anything. I have parts lying around that I can "max" out BF2 @ 1024x768.

You CPU and RAM could bottle neck some of that card's performance too.

It's a good card at a good price, so you probably did well. But for instance:

If your monitor has a max resolution of 1280x1024 (or wide screen equivalent), and that card was at it's previous price of $400.00 (or higher), you could get nearly the same performance (depending on other specs), from a 7800 or 7900 Gt or GTX. If the only thing a card will gain you is a resolution you can't output with your monitor your probably wasting money. You could probably argue that it can push higher AA rates, and get a better frame rate, but at some point those AA levels and frame rates dont' make a bit of difference to the human eye.

Always build and upgrade your system with your max resolution in mind.Unless of course your planning on upgrading a monitor to display higher resolutions, then the technology (and money) isn't wasted. I see people on forums all over the WWW who have killer rigs but play on monitors that can't take advantage of the upper 20% of their power.

Lol nice way to brag, eh?

If you always wait for the next card you'll never get one.
