I got two 7800's in sli mode. When I enable them in sli mode i only get 50-60fps but when i only use one i get 70-80fps. What the hell is going on??? Jsr helped me but didnt do me any good in another forum. Please help me out to figure this whole thing. Thx.

lets give ya a crash course on Dual Graphics Cards, Dual Graphics Cards do 1 thing, they share how much graphics power processing that they do. It will make the game a bit easier to play with but its also your slots as well, mobos usually have PCI-E 16x slots, and SLI Cards share the power and use the slots to make 16 (8 each),

so your not getting all the graphic power u need with 2, just stick with 1.

Wow, Flipinomad, that was a stupid post. 2 cards in x8 slots are only about 5% slower than 2 cards in x16 slots. Many benchies prove this.

Play with your sli settings. There are several modes that you can run it in, such as AFR (alternate frame). Also, this should be in the support forum, not here.

The bf2 engine is probably too instable to full benefit from two video cards in SLI...

Same concept as why more than 2 gigs of RAM doesn't make a difference in Windows XP. If you don't know what I'm referring to, do some research. Not to be rude, but I'm running on 3 hours sleep here.

OK, let get some facts straight...

XP is capable of addressing approx 3.5g MAX for progs certain programs, AutoCAD is one of them via registry settings.

No help to bf2 as it hits 1.5g approx (no tweeks available apart from the well known - like disabling the *.bik files which save approx 130mb) - thats why 2g memory will benefit you compared to 1g as going over the 1g causes swap file useage which is hard drive talking to you processor rather than your memory = slow as hell)

SLI setup correctly will rape the same card on it's own, fact.

Anything else you wanna know for real you are better in the support forum or a dedicated hardware forum.

badsubby, like I told you in the pm, to turn off vsync you need to enable the old style control panel first:



Then accessing it via your taskbar, force vsync off (uncheck the box and set the slider to off).



Now in game, open the console (via your ` key) and type: renderer.drawfps 1

You should by all accounts, pull over 70 fps (your refresh rate).
Now if you are still noticing severe dips, turn the AA totally off (both in the control panel and in-game) and see what kind of numbers you are getting.

As for why it dips in SLI but not single, here are the steps I personally would take:

-Open the PC and make sure the bridge connector is on right.
-In the SLI options screen, make sure "Multi-GPU rendering" is selected.
-Also, if you have messed with your profiles, make sure you are not running in that nvidia 16x AA mode available to SLI users (I'm talking your driver settings not the in-game options).

I'm not going to suggest using CoolBits if you don't know how to use it, but honestly, changing from split frame rendering or alternate frame rendering would not make a difference at 1024x768.

It's hard to say without being able to know how your drivers are set, but this really sounds like a case of you having the AA set way too high with vsync on.

I know benchmarks will lead you to believe your system can do 500+ fps, but you need to take synthetic benchmarks with a grain of salt.
Those marks are complied on a new/empty HDD and they just show what a system peaks at.
It's rarely reflective of what an everyday system with multiple applications installed will pull consistently.

As an example, my last system was an FX-60 dual core with dual evga 7900 GTX's and at 1600x1200, vsync on, high detail, 4xAA in-game, I *could drop my fps below my capped refresh rate (even though it would pull insane numbers with vsync off).


If you do decide to go through the driver un/re install again, do it right.

Do NOT uninstall them via the windows control panel.
XP will not totally remove them (dll files) if done this way.

Reboot into safe mode (F8) and use driver cleaner pro:

AutoCAD? correct me if I'm wrong but is that an architectural design program? lol, who the %%%% here cares about how much RAM CAD programs can utilize? Let me make a revision to my statement; I was making a reference to XP & it's relationship with video games.
