in my opinion since ive never used one...its like another procesing unit like a cpu or video card that helps computes physics ingame since each moment of movement (like seeing someone drop their gun) is different and takes some computing, so u have more fps when there are many things are flying around.

right now, most games dont need this as even tho physics has improved greatly, it hasnt gotten to the point where physics cards are needed and there hasnt been that much reported difference in fps with/without a physics card...so its not worth ur money...but id wait till crysis which takes physics to a new level and maybe one of those physics cards will come in handy

and it wont change bf2 much since bf2 isnt really that phsycis intense, but if u have one, u mite get 2-3 more fps in-game

btw i like ur icon...i was just watching that episode in my season 8 dvd :P

In short, its a useless stop gap product that is supposed to ease the burden of physics from your CPU and GPU.

Only problem being is that games have to be coded to utilise the card, of which there is only one available - Ghost Recon AW. The difference it makes for that title is very negligible, you get a bit of extra eye candy and a reduced frame rate. It apparently does nothing for any other games.

Bottom line is, ATI and to a lesser extent nVidia have announced they will be incorporating advanced physics instructions in their future GPUs, making the Aegia redundant before it even gains traction.

Buy one if you're interesting in 0wning a peice of computer history...

          Doesn't look to be:
          technology,hardware,graphics,motherboard,reviews,gaming,video games,pc games,analysis,modding,case mod,news,headlines

Looks like they're going to code the physics for CPU and GPUs to instruct.

A seperate card for physics is very backwards thinking. Remember when you had to buy a DVD decoder card to play DVD-video on your PC? Even the lowest of the low integrated graphics can do this now.

thanks man, yeah that simpsons episode is fun as hell, the james bond part i almost cried laughing

and i was wondering about the card because the Dell XPS 700 has it, i thought it was a major improvement, ive been thinking: can that be used like DX10? of course not a major feature of DX10, maybe some things like, wind moving trees and those things ( like crysis )

              Re: AGEIA® PhysX Accelerator

For the Physx card to even be used, a game has to be coded with Ageia's physics engine. Most games so far use Havok as their physics engine, so they are not compatible with Ageia's Physx card. There very well could be a DX10 game that uses Ageia's Physx engine (I forgot the name of it), but it will never be a required part of Microsoft's DX10 API. Crysis, however, is using its own in-house physics, neither Havok nor Ageia.

yeh BF2 game doesn't use the card, I wait til more games come out so u can actually use it more
