I would have thought he had neither considering he's asking about a PCI card and that he says "remember its the 256 MB PCI".

But lets see what he comes back with. If he's got AGP or PCI-E then no problems.

You probably can run it, but its not going to be pretty. I'd actually look for a 2nd hand PCI 5700 card which will be about the same performance wise but a lot cheaper.

Well.. I'm leaving to go back home in a few days and all I saw at best buy was this card. I'm afraid if I dont buy it and I go home that they wont have it in stock or even have it period. It looked like it would be my best option and money isn't a problem. All I was curious was about was how well it would run, and with you saying not pretty do you mean low settings but no choppyness? or worse than that?

          thx

What they're telling you is...do not waste your time or money.

That card won't even use the full 256mb of ram anyway, due to its 128bit memory bus.

Add in the fact that it is PCI only, and it is crippled even further!

You said money is not a problem? Then use it wisely to buy a new mobo.

Yes if money is not a problem, then its much wiser spent on a new mobo and agp or PCI-E card.

In all honesty I wouldn't be upset if I lost the opportunity to buy that card, its about as desirable as an STD.

this thread is on the same card but 128MB PCI version. [only diffrence is the MB]

Im using one as we speak.

Its pretty good, acctually, runs HL2 on high settings with about 30 - 40 fps, which is good IMO.

if thats the 128 imagine the 256, a few other people said go for it [buying it] and that some of the people on here dont know what there talking about. so im confused now lol

There we go, straight from the horses' mouth. And that using a quicker AGP card.

yeah. but several people said thats not true

by the way, look at my post above yours. some interesting info

                        quotes from another site

Someone below said me this card runs battlefield two, on low settings of course, that is NOT TRUE!!! ITS BETTER!!! I have: Intel Celeron D 2.5ghz Viking 1GB RAM GeForce 6200 PCI (this card) i jsut got it today and abosolutly loving it, ive been gaming on battlefield for hours! people said id be able to play on all low settings with some lag, well GUES WHAT!!?? I can run all MEDIUM settings at 30FPS and I have NO LAG!!! Thats right i run Battlefield 2 on all medium settings with now lag, and for only 40 bucks, this card is a must buy! this is no lie! Easy instalation, easy driver instalation, had my card installed and was playing bf2 in 30 minutes!! GET IT if you want a cheap, PCI card to run good games! TO TIGER DIRECT: Tiger direct did a very nice job of shipping the item. Thanks Tiger Direct!

                        Summary:
One of the few PCI cards that runs battlefield 2. i believe the geforce 5700fx and 6200 are the only two PCI cards that will run battlefield two...on low settings of course, but if ur stuck with only PCI slots its a great card

so i got several CAN PLAY, CAN'T play responses

                        confused

Ok, without blowing your mind, the RAM count on a card is the least important thing. If anything, the 256MB card may even be slower than the 128MB one as the manufacturer has put a cheap 256MB module on the card so the unknown customer can look and go "WOW! 256MB! That must be really really fast".

A 6200 doesnt do enough "graphical stuff" to use even 128MB or RAM, 256MB is just unecessary.

Half Life 2 is much less taxing on a system than BF2 also. Plus the guy isnt saying what resolution he's running.

Dude, at the end of the day, buy what you want, but its a crap card and not worth the money. It may run BF2, but no where near as good as alternatives. You could spend less than that, get a new motherboard and a faaaaar better graphics card.

okay how confusing is putting in a new motherboard yourself? and a price for a decent one? thx

Its not that hard, but you'd be better off being supervised by someone who has dont it before.

Anyway, here's a bunch of boards you can use (I assume your CPU is socket 478, didnt research your PC though):

And then you could get a graphics card like this:

                              or this:

And that would be 5x better than that PCI card you are looking at, at least.
