  • Aftermarket Heatsink and overclocking.

    Hey guys,

I can get 2.5ghz in the summer and 2.6 in the winter with my current setup on the stock cooler. If I went with watercooling or a better heatsink would I possibly be able to raise it higher? If so would it be worth it?

EDIT: Whoops, I thought I posted this in Tech Center.

yes. You will definately be able to max it out, but of course there are limitations to the processor as with steppings and such. What are your idle and load temps now?

Steppings? Elaborate? I Idle around 28*C when the case is reading 70*F and about 35* when it reads 85*F. Load never goes over 48*C in the hotter temps.

IDK how to explain steppings. You could look it up on wiki if you really wanted too know. It basically determines the overclocking ability of a processor. And i noticed that you and i have rather similar systems, and those temps seem fine. So if you really wanted to overclock more, id say buy a better processor, like an opteron 148 or 165.
