Help with recording in FRAPS

I have top of the line PC and my specs can be viewed in my signature. I play BF2 on Ultra High Settings with 4x anti alias. I get 90fps and there is no sign of lag. So I decided to start recording by using FRAPS (most used OpenGL recorder). I used FRAPS and my fps dropped to 30fps which is ridiculous and unexpected. Somebody told me to put dual core processor but I would like to ask how some people were making good movies only a year ago with Pentium 4 extreme edition and only one Nvidia 6800. Thats why I think I should be able to do it without having problems with my $1000 processor. My BF2 friends, please give me some instructions, suggestions, advices, tweaks or settings that I could do or change so that I get better performance in game and good movies at a good fps afterwards. there are settings in fraps which allow u to change at wat rate of fps u want to record, recording at 60FPS will reduce system ability to run BF2 smoothly, if u r making 'videos' that u want to show on google or something u gotta accept the 30 FPS and record at 60 FPS, or else, if u are recording for the sake of keeping videos on ure comp, for future reference, record at 30 or 20, might help...

well, its basically the huge file space that is needed to save this stuff, fraps, u should know, saves MASSIVE AVI files, hence while recording, the program needs to save over and over... slowing ure video down (i think)
they best is to reduce ure graphics is some way... not so that it will look real bad (i run on MEGA LOW) with a fps of 60, then use fraps which makes it 20 - 30.
to me the more realistic the game is, the harder it gets.. so i make mine on low, i might try reducing the dynamic lighting and *maybe* the AA.

BTW, dont listen to me too much, i dont know that much about hardware.. or graphcs..

1. why did you drop so much money into an alienware?
-your "$1000" processor was only that much new, you can get an fx60 for 6-800 now


2. most video's arent fraps'd, very few are (only the ones from a first person stand point running around in game) others are made from other video capture programs and taken off of the battle recorder demo's, there are other settings you can try like not recording audio that will help out some..fraps isnt the only recorder out there but im not into making videos so i cant really give ya any more advice than that

Make sure the "half-size" setting is selected and set the fps to about 50.

I *think* that the game will never go faster than the framerate you select FRAPS to record at. (While FRAPS is recording that is).

yeah, donpost is rite, fraps drops ure FPS to the recording FPS set OR it reduces ure FPS by the recording level

EG, if ure original FPS was 100 and u record at 60, u will most probably get around 35- 40 (which is agreeable, IMHO)

FRAPS does NOT drop FPS to what you set! It drops because it takes extreme processing power to record the clips into such high quality AVI files.

Set FRAPS to record at 30fps, render at 30fps...the standard video frame rate is 30fps.
