Hi all! I'm building a new PC in a couple of weeks and am reasonably happy with everything I've chosen but still a little unsure about a couple of components. It's not meant to be a best money can buy system, just an upper end of midrange system with budget in mind. I'm in Australia so I can't talk dollars with you guys coz it'll be different. First of all my current system is as follows-
P4 2.8 Prescott socket 478
1gig generic DDR400
ECS PF1 mobo
Gigabyte 6600GT Turbo Force GFX card
Some cheap case with 400 watt PSU
Sound Blaster Audigy2 ZS
Pioneer 108DVDRW
1x 40gb ATA HDD 7200rpm (i've had this drive a while!)
1x 160GB SATA 7200rpm (backup, archive, downloads drive, no os)
This system has done me well for 2 years now only thing I've upgraded is the GFX 12 months ago from a 9600XT to the 6600GT. Now the new system-
Thermaltake Soprano black case model that includes 430w psu
Pentium Core2 Duo E6400
Gigabyte GA-965P-S3 mobo (was gonna go cheaper GA-945P-S3 but wanted raid option for later on.)
200GB SATA2 Drive for D:, existing 160GB SATA D: to be moved to C: for now until I can afford to get another SATA2 drive.
2gb Corsair DDR2 5400 ram (I know mobo supports PC6400 but didn't wanna spend the extra $80AUS)
Stock speed Gigabyte or Asus 7900GT card (was gonna go an overclocked XFX but heard of heat problems with overclocked 7900s)
Pioneer 111 DVDRW drive in black to match the case :)
Soundblaster Audigy2 ZS to be carried over from old pc to new pc.
I need opinions on what you guys generally think of the system, I'm a little concerned about the GA-945P-S3 board because I've read of a number of DOAs of these. And also still a little apprehensive about the 7900GT with the overheating because there are scattered reports of even the stock ones having heat problems. Thanks for your time and advice guys! :)
