Hey im recently going to buy a new video card an ATI Radeon X1600 Pro AGP 512MB Video Card, i know i should get PCI-E but i dont have the mother board nor can i dish out another 200 but i have no problems with AGP

anyways, my current system is
p4 2.8ghz
radeon 9800 pro 128mb
1 gig of ram

WOuld this upgrade of the card be great for my perforamnce? currently i get around 20-25 FPS in BF2 on 64 man servers. and the price of the new card is about 264 bucks canadian

Yes. You will get better FPS and you could increase some settings. Your bottleneck will now be your CPU and memory.

id check ebay.com theres video cards that are alot cheaper and as far as the X1600 goes...id go for something in the x800 series

I wouldnt go there. The x1600 would give you slight bumps in some games (not all) and isnt worth upgrading from a 9800 Pro, and the 512MB of RAM on it is for show, not for go (that card won't utilise all the RAM).

You'd be better trying to track down a 6800GS or as conscriptvirus suggests, an X800XT, they're available new at bargain prices. Both are higher end cards of their generations, that X1600 is a mid range card.

yeah a 6800ultra usually goes for $150 around ebay and it use to be @ compusa they went for $130 but i think theyre sold out

Well the only test i did so far was BF2142 Beta, and currently i played all medium no dynamic shadows and 4 AA and i was playing smooth not 1 hippcup in a 32/32 match, but when i have the 6800 XT i had medium all except Textures and Dynamic shadows off and no AA and i was suttering alot.

Im going to test out BF2 now and also more on Dark messiah <--(i think this beta has alot of memory leaks)

Also i am thinking next year when i get a job i'll be upgradeing my Mobo to a PCI-E slot and get an AMD chip

the 7600gs and gt i think both come and agp and both beat the x1600
but another card to look at is the 7800gto

There too expensive, i asked about the 7800 GTO from the 200 mark it jumped to 400, and its a 256 card.. and its OC'ed and i didnt want that

and they also didnt have the 7600 gs instock u have to order online, which i dont want to do

you wouldnt notice a differince between 256 and 512
as long as u have enough ram
but ur going the wrong way with the x1600
but thats just my 2 cents
its up to u in the final decision
