I've got this computer, not a bad setup. An Amd x2 3800+ , 2 gigs ram , 250gb HDD. But I need a video card. I'm look at the BFG 7600gt oc. I've found one for under $200 cdn. Also looking at the x850xt PE. By the way the slot is PCI-e if your wondering. Now I don't have enough cash to buy a new PSU at the moment, and if I did I'd have to wait a while for a new video card. So I'd prefer just buying a videocard for my current psu. The 7600gt does say it needs a 350watt power supply, but I've heard that that only with a laoded system. I only have one optical drive, no floppy drive, one HDD and just 2 usb port for my keyboard/mouse. Do you think the BFG7600gt would run fine? IF not would the x850xt PE be a better choice, if it could even run with the current PSU. I know it will be faster, but doesn't have the SM3 support. So basically, what video cards can you recommend with a 300 watt PSU. And even better, would the bfg 7600gt oc run on it?

I guess if the PNY version ( I always sound it as pony in my head when typing it) can run at 300 watt, so shouldn't the BFG approximately? And if not, it won't be a severe different, so it wouldn't ruin anything, right?Comment

the 7600GT is a little better tehn the 6800GT with the added advantage of not as much power consumtion. As is it draws all its power from the PCIe slot with no additional power in unlike the 6800GT. Thus its perfect for systems with lower power PSU. Personally I'd always say get a bigger PSU, I think my standered for a minimum at the moment is 400watt(50watts over 350watts which is the current minimum for a basic gaming machine) for say an HTPC, just because its a more reliable power supply for alll the components (50watts over the minimum requirements).

So, having a bit of breathing room with the wattage does wonders? I suppose so, I'd just really not wnt to have to buy a new PSu. Although, once I buy a videocard, I do play on buying this PSU, 400 watt Fortron Sparkle, only 40 bucks cdn

7600gt has better clock speeds and supports shaders 3.0 for true hdr
x850 16 pixel pipelines

What brand is the PSU? If its some no name/junk brand like aspire, rosewill, in-win, or anything else on this list. If its on this list, I would toss it no matter how much your powering with it.

I would still be hesitant even if it were from a good brand. Putting too much load on your PSU will put your whole system on the line. When a PSU dies its possible for it to kill other parts. Upgrade the PSU first, it will open so many more doors when it comes to what graphics card you could get. It would be idiotic to limit yourself to a low power card.Comment

Sparkle is a good brand. Antec, OCZ, Enermax, Fortron, PCP&C and a bunch of others are all tested and true. Sparkle is a rebadged Fortron, that or the other way around.Comment
