all laptops are different - even ones with same specs
        (CPU. ram. graphics)
because they might be bussed/clocked different
my laptop runs far cry with EVERYTH(ING maxxed out and well over 100 fps
but barley 15 on bf2 9 unless I made some adjustments - now can get 50-75

resolution - start with matching your screen's pixels
(be prepared to drop to 800x600)
geometry high (then low if needed)
everything else on low or off
view distance = 100% (I dropped this to 75% and my speed went from 15 to 55)

I would say almost everything at low at your native screen resolution or lower.

You wont blow up your laptop by putting everything on high but you will get some major video lag and it will be hard, or impossible, to play. Try putting everything on medium with no AA with 1024x768 @ 60Hz. If that doesnt work try lowering some settings until you can play good.
