My friend recently moved and is anxious to get himself a computer. This is the build I came up with, tell me what you think!

first of all atleast get him a combo drive

as im sure he would like to burn some CD's and alot of games are comming out on DVD roms now. tho i would ultimatly suggest an NEC 16x dvd burner for like $30.

if you could up the budget $50 i think an x2 3800+ would be well worth the extra money.

other than that it looks good.

Upgrade the video card too...it is the weakest part of the system you've chosen and by far the most important as far as graphical settings/fps is concerned.

There are deals to get an x1900xt after rebates for $235, or x1900gt's for around $195(everyday price)...and prices will continue to fall on the x19's as the x1950's begin to hit shelves.

lol thats what I told him, he didn't want one.

As for the other stuff, he didn't want the price to go far over $700. And the video card isn't really weak, its the same if not better than a 7600GT. If I were personally building a computer for myself I'd get at least an X1800 XT, but he wanted the same video card I have because it works so well.

It isn't weak, it is the "weakest" part of the system...big difference in wording.

I guess he should be OK, seeing as that card is slightly better than the one I am currently using quite happily(800xl).

Also, it gives him a little more cash in pocket to apply to his DX10 card he will be buying early next year for Crysis/Vista.

Very true, I'll talk it over with him and try to convince him to get a new x1000 vid. card
