Please help before the comp goes out the window

I am having real problems with patches. What is happening is when i play with no patches it is fine. If i put 1.20 on i get real bad image splintering so i tryed 1.30 still the same. I have tryed differnt drivers and still the same. My temps are okay. My card is a 6600 256mb and i have 1gb of ram. I dont really no allot about comps and have had as much as i can take of uninstalling and re installing please HELP.

Okay itis not down to patches as it just happend with no patches. Somenoe must no what is causing it please help.

Clean the dust bunnies out of your case. I bet there is a ton in there.

Use a can of air, NOT a vacumn.

I did it with a hoover but i will try with the air. Thanks for the help.

it might also help to review you video settings in BF2, you could be caning your system! do the shader cache procedure too?

my settings are all on low and what and how do you do the shader cache.

Have now cleaned the computer and am running 1.30 it is okay for a bit and then starts to go funny again.

its where you delete the old cache the game stores (my documents/battlefield2/mods/bf2/cache) you delete that folder, load a map to optimize new shaders and then defrag the drive. you could try a new install of nvidia drivers too, current drivers are 91.31 (or 91.33 beta). with your settings.....you shud be able to run most on medium. make sure the dynamic settings are turned off, theyre pretty useless and def no AA! also do you have a sound card or is it on board? you can free up system resources if you have a soundcard and you select the hardware option in audio options. have you overclocked your card or anything like that?

Thanks for the help. I have tryed 91.31 drivers and the problems was even worse. I think my sound card is on board but not really sure all i really no is it is a realltec ac97. i have just deleted what you said there was only three in there. Will try and post back.

And no it has not been overclocked and my settings are all low nodynamic settings and no aa and still the same.

definitely onboard sound. is your audio set to "software" mode? tried "low" on sound quality? i was using an audigy 2nx and tried to run in hardware mode, and the thing would freeze and lock up hard everytime the artillery fired.

if you are using onboard the ports you plug your speakers into are connected to the motherboard. With Realtek'97 though, that is 'usually' onboard, but can be found on some really cheap PCI sound cards...however, I'd tend to believe that you are using onboard.

If you are getting glitches, they sound to me like your graphics card might be overheating a bit. Make sure you have good airflow on it. For a quick experiment, try taking the side of your case off and using a fan (if you have one) to blow into the side of the case and play for a while. If you notice that you don't have the artifacting/problems you've been having graphically then you might need to add an extra case fan or two into your system to improve airflow.
