I was wondering. I want to start building a computer and I need 19 parts in total. Now I was wonder, Can I buy anything I want ? Or does everything have to be com[atible with the computer ? Lets say I want to buy a graphics card. Can I buy any graphics card and will it work for my computer or do I have to buy certain parts ?

different components have different compatibility issues. Eg for some processors you need different motherboards, for SLi or ATi MOST of the time you need different motherboards. Different CPU Sockets have different RAM preferences.

Tom's Hardware has a great guide. I suggest reading the whole thing first without doing anything. Then, when you have a clear picture of how it's done, follow the guide step by step.

Ohh-boy! Trust me. Building a PC maybe fun but trust me. It's not. You will expericance problem's on the way. Like me. I bult my PC, literally just for BF 2. I got all the specs the game needed. Got it all. Then somehow, it falls appart- BF 2 doesnt work! I cannot go on the NET with it, an error report comes up all the time. If you are bulding one, make sure you know what you are doing!Comment

What's your price range? I can pick you out all the parts you need through newegg and voila! order it and put it together.
AMD cpus are super cheap right now, and the 7600GT is an awesome card for $140 after rebates.
You could build a killer rig for well under $1000 no problem.Comment

Never get a recertified anything, the warranty is crap. Get a 7600GT, the BFG one is like 114 after rebates now.
PS: If you want to play BF2 that is possibly the worst build I've ever seen anyone throw on here. The PSU is bad and overpowered for the other components listed, the graphics card will only give you a 15 day warranty for a used product, the Hard Drive is small, the CPU is pretty useless for games at that price (you can get a faster single core for almost 1/2 the price), and the gig of ram is about 2x what you should be spending on a gig.
I would suggest getting some other opinions.Comment

15 days is plenty long to figure out weather your card is good or bad. and why downgrade to a 7600GT. that ram is well worth the money, it has good timmings and OC's very very well. as for the CPU, if you would pick a single core over a dual core for today/future games you are a moron. yes i know BF2 does not support it (yet) but support is growing. Not to mention im sure he does more than just play games. multitasking is so much better on a dual core. hell i run virus scans while i play BF2. as for the PSU it is not crap and overpowered is good for future upgrades. and yes the hard drive is smaller than id like it to be but unless he wants some POS $20 case on his budget that will have to do for the time being.

EDIT: yeah after further looking you could get a wopping 3500+ with a whole 200Mhz more clock for $91 and a 3800+ with a whole 400Mhz more clock for $112. gosh that 400Mhz makes me want to just ditch the dual core, and just forget about serious multitasking. LMFAO
as for memory over futher exam i see the cheapest CL4 1Gb stick is $99 wow thats a big savings right there. i dont recall the stick i posted being $200.
