is pretty dang big. wouldnt fit on my board, other junk got in teh way. what a shame, looking into a refund, but running some numbers it almost seems like after shipping it back and the restock fee, i still would end up paying several dollars in the end to them. idunno, gonna look into shipping costs.. :hmm:

so ya, that thing is pretty big, so be aware for this and any heatsink. :|:

it turned out to be less than 1/8 of an inch too big, just barley hitting the heatsink on the northbridge chip. i tried adn tried, just couldnt fit it.

What mobo do you have? You could get a different northbridge heatsink from Zalman with a smaller profile

I've got that same HSF; I think it's frickin' awesome.

And yes, the levers are too close to the Northbridge chipset (the heatsink is really "short and wide", instead of tall like the stock. let me show you what I did. I have this mobo, with this stupid pimped out northbridge heatsink (that's my review, 2nd from top if you couldn't tell):

I had to take the heatsink out (careful, careful, careful--it's stuck on by thermal tape) and hacksaw/tinsnip off about .5" of idiot useless aluminum advertising. Then I put it back on and good as new, except that there is enough room to throw the catch on the hsf now. I'll post a pic if I get home in time.

If you're comfortable pulling of your northbridge heatsink and modding it a little, then you should go for it.

I was so impressed with the cpu heatsink fan (it's a little cooler, but MUCH more quiet) that I bought an arctic cooling 120mm exhaust fan and an arctic cooling ati silencer for my gpu. Both are cool and quiet--and I get a VERY nice o'c on my x800xt AIW.

the hsf dimensions/northbridge sink dimensions wouldn't have helped--the catch levers are obstructed.

idunno...i dont really feel comfortable with removing my northbridge heatsink. :|:

on the plus side it gave me an excuse to apply a fresh coat of AS5, dropping my temps a few degrees....too bad this stupid stock intel fan is still loud as usual. i read some review saying the intel stock fans are some of the most silent....BS.

i didnt get it for heat purposes, i got it for noise. i already know heat wise its as good as a stock unit, but stock intel's are so noisy.

anywho, i know this thing fits on my old asus mobo, but the reason i got my current one was cuz the asus board had an SiS chipset that didnt work right 6 series nvidia cards. im gonna google around and see if i can find a solution to that problem, and maybe attempt to switch back to my old board. if anything, atlest i can get a nice fresh instal of windows, thats always good.
