    [upgrade]asrock 939dual-sata2 Amd 64 4000

llright heres the deal.. right now I have a Abit NF7-S v2.0 with AMD Athlon XP 3000+ BARTON

Will i get a huge performance hit when i upgrade my MOBO AND CPU

[This is what I want to buy]

    ASROCK 939DUAL-SATA2
    AMD ATHLON 64 4000+ 2000F 1MB S939 BOXED

    My other specs are

    2 x 512 MB ram PC3200 [Dual channel] (Planning to buy another 2x 512 MB PC3200 so i can run 4 x 512 MB PC3200 DUAL CHANNEL)
    Geforce 6800 GT 256 MB DDr3 (that's the reason i dont wanna buy a PCI-E card yet..

Also would any S-ATA disk be better than ATA disk.. right now i have 2 ATA HD's

    Maxtor 6E040L0
    DiamondMax Plus 9
    7200 RPM

    Maxtor 6Y160P0
    DiamondMax Plus 8
    7200 RPM

Would it be good to upgrade HD to?

    I want to load BF2 FASTER:evil:

By hanging onto both the outdated ram and AGP slot...you are completely screwing yourself over for any kind of upgrade after this.

If you build the above, that system is finished for good.

You need to save up more until those two items no longer matter being replaced. Get AM2 or Core Duo 2 both using DDR2/pci-e.

FYI this board has both PCI-E and AGP and the function to be upgraded to AM2.. Seeing as that I still have a Fu*kin nice vid card I won't even bother to go PCI-E yet.. also 4 x 512 MB PC3200 in dual channel.. will suit me just fine for the things i want..BF2

Now would sata be that must faster then IDE..??

I will loook for a more futuristic system when the prices go down... (in about 5 years lol

You do realise that 4X512 is slower than 2X1GB, you cant have 1T (CMD1) on with 4 sticks or ram.

You should see a performance increase going from an XP 3000+ BARTON to a 939 4000+.

True on the first part...NEGATIVE on the second. It is socket 939 and DDR1...AM2 is socket AM2(obviously) and is DDR2.

I agree, that's why I suggested waiting for an entire build...as there is nothing wrong with your card except for playing Oblivion maxed.

You mean over ATA100/133? About 12.5%. I'm currently running my sata in ATA133 due to some HD issues BF gave me. Just a little slower loading windows, a spot or two behind loading BF2.

Actually that board IS upgradeable to AM2 and DDR2, and the daughter card is now available as well,

              Yes, I did my research:p

well the mobo + cpu should arrive this wednesday the ram i will buy later..

As for the HD's ill stick with ATA untill 1 or 2 breaks down.. if I have to buy a new 1 I'll go sata..

Like i said the vid card is perfect for BF2.. (i hate oblivion anyway's)

@ what settings will i play with this (new) system [without the Extra 1 GB ram]

Will the Extra 1 GB ram make a lot of difference in (loading and overall performance of my PC)

Thx 4 the input much appreciated :)

That is extremely interesting to see a mobo like this...I did not see this module when I looked at the NewEgg description. I have ony seen a CPU upgrade possibility from some odd website long ago using proprietary parts, not a factory job like this.

However, generally these multi mobos that use both pci-e and AGP, or both DDR1 and DDR2(or whatever odd combo was used in the past)...are barely acceptable for what they do.

But, the review I just read says it operated the AGP slot at its full 8x(this is new!), and the pci-e at its full speed as well(also new). Doesn't sound like a bad idea actually.

Disregard my earlier posts then...sounds like it will work fine.

                  Update:

I just received a call from my PC shop:

                  Seems that I won't be getting a AMD 64 4000 After al,

                  I will be getting a X2 3800 as replacement..

                  Should I be happy???

i upgraded to the same board with a X2 4200 last year, to keep my 6800GT going :-) the only thing i would suggest is to get 2 x 1gb ddr as running 4 x 512 sticks will only run at 333 T2 and not 400 T1, other than that its an excelant choice
