    ATI Catalyst 6.8 Drivers Released..

Hope this will fix some problems for some people

    Some notes include:

Improved shader compiler and transform engine optimizations have led to many significant performance gains in OpenGL applications across the entire Radeon® X1000 series of products. These include:

    * Doom 3 performance improves as much as 6.5%
    * Quake 4 (v1.2 or higher) performance improves as much as 18%
    * Chronicles of Riddick performance improves as much as 20%. Average improvements of 5-10% are commonly seen
    * Prey performance improves as much as 16%

Optimizations made to ATI's graphics memory manager have led to significant gains in DirectX applications that make heavy use of graphics memory on 256MB ATI graphics cards:

    * 3DMark06 performance improves as much as 22% on single ATI Radeon® X1000 series cards with 256MB of graphics memory at 1280x1024 and higher when anti-aliasing is enabled. The largest gains are found on the ATI Radeon® X1800 series and ATI Radeon® X1900 series of products
    * Call of Duty 2 performance improves as much as 30% on single ATI Radeon® X550 cards or higher with 256MB of video memory at 1280x1024 and higher when anti-aliasing enabled. The largest gains are found on the ATI Radeon® X1800 series and ATI Radeon® X1900 series of products

It screwed everything up for me.I have an x850xt Platinum Agp card, and although I use the Catalyst Removal tool,it still messed something up.See,I had 6.7 and it ran fine, but I like to stay up to date on drivers,so,I installed it.I have had this card since it came out about 9 monthes ago,and never had an issue like this, ever.Even rolling back to 6.7 didnt help,I get that black screen crash before the game even loads up.I would stick with 6.7.

ATI have unofficially stopped supporting mid to low range cards since last year. I have found that catalyst 6.xx drivers have virtually no performance or visual benefits for our range cards. Blocky Shadows and other visual glitches on games like BF2 are still present, no matter what drivers they release.

            Go read the change log.

There is like 2 or 3 insances where the x800 series they fix something. I have always upgraded to latest and never really to seem to have problems.

My BF2 runs like butter. Even though I like to keep it on low for performance and to keep up with my shooting skill.

I get black squares in game when looking down a guns sights and hitting ESC during a game crashes the game to the desktop. Several other people are reporting the same thing on Rage3d forums in the Catalyst 6.8 thread.

got the same card--just got the arctic cooling silencer last week. my temps dropped from ~83C load to no more than ~68C with it overclocked to 526 and 1140 core/mem.

as far as i'm concerned, no reason to upgrade for another 12-18months.

going to try new drivers tonight...and cross my fingers.

Has anyone tried night vision with these drivers? Still trying to play a decent SF night map without my eyes bleeding.

                    Using 6.5's now.

I haven't been able to use the latest drivers since erm 6.5(?) If I install the new drivers after a restart everything goes 4-bit coloured and the res is like 640*480. There's nothing I can do. I heard that it might have something to do with VIA-mobos. I have R9600Pro and a Shuttle (via kt400) mobo.
Has ATI completely stopped supporting my card or are they just so crap coders? Anybody?
