How Good Are PhysX Accelerators ?

    The Asus Ageia PhysX Accelerator.

ASUS PhysX P1 Card powered by AGEIA PhysX processor, things don't just look real, and they act real and feel real. Prepare to be shocked by stunning massively destructible buildings and landscapes; explosions that cause collateral damage; lifelike characters with spectacular new weapons; realistic smoke, fog and oozing fluids are all now possible with the ASUS PhysX P1!

    Sounds good but..........
Will i beable to run this with my GFX Card ? & will it be worth it ?

You need a free pci slot for the PhysX card, thats all, and its only worth it if you want improved physics in the few games that will support it.

Theres the list, personally the only title I will be buying on that list is UT2007, and thats a long way away so theres absolutely no reason at all for me to buy a PhysX card.

        Which part of,

and its only worth it if you want improved physics in the few games that will support it.
did you fail to understand? Don't know about you nut I DID NOT see BF2 on the list of supported games (and I don't have a crystal ball, so I don't know what other games you have and whether they are on the list). But if you think it is worth the $250.00,

for prettier explosions and such (in a very limited amount of games), then go ahead and get it.

I'd really only reconmend it if you have a wad of cash. I take it that the PCI-E slot it takes up means you won't be able to SLI?

Actually it uses PCI, not PCI-E.

It uses PCI not PCI-E so you'd still be able to go SLI if you wanted to.

A game needs to be coded for that card and only a few are (GRAW for example).
Its like a TV card...Its good to have for some TV Software, but BF2 wont show you some Commercials while u are dead.

that card is the biggest waste of money, you might as well burn the cash in a fireplace. i saw a video of them testing it on tom clancy game w/ and w/out the physx card and half the time it didnt even do what it was suppose to... i'll see if i can find it. it doesnt make game play nice or better just make things more realistic like cars weigh more then dont seem fake and unreal thats all...

Tom's Hardware helps you buy the best hardware and build the best PC to play, create and work..

read this then goto page 5 and d/l the videos. physx card blow serious chunks....

Re: How Good Are PhysX Accelerators ?

New motherboards will allow 3 video cards to be used on the mobo. 2 GPU's + 1 PPU.

The idea is to have either a single video card like an x1900xt for example, + a single lesser card like an x1600 for the PPU part. Or you use Crossfire x1900xt's + a single x1600 for the PPU.

nVidia is also working on a similar venture. Both claim that their current cards(even the lesser models) as FAR superior in doing physics than this PhysX card we are talking about here.

Re: How Good Are PhysX Accelerators ?

The only game with proper support for the PhysX card so far is the Cellfactor
beta demo. PhysX comes as a 2 part package. The PhysX engine (bought
from Novanex) which CAN run all physics in software like Havoc and then the
Ageia card. So a game with proper support runs the engine and the card.

PhysX gives away the engine for free IF you support the card which makes it
interesting for small devs. Havoc costs a lot of $$. I've seen some tech
demos and the Ageia card can do some pretty amazing stuff.
